Senior secures personal bests in five events
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Carly Paul (Fort Collins, Colo.) of the Brown women's track & field team set a school and Ivy League record in the heptathlon as she wrapped up a second-pace finish at the Tennessee Relays Friday at Laporte Stadium.
Â
Paul racked up 5,632 total points as the top collegiate athlete in the field, and finished second overall behind only Melanie Winters, who competed unattached with 5,716 points. Paul broke her previous school record of 5,509, which was set last season. She also broke the previous Ivy League record of 5,530 set by Harvard's Madison Hansen in 2016.
Â
Paul won both the high jump (5-8.5) and long jump (20-4.5) events en route to the second-place finish. She also set personal-bests in five events, comprised of the 110 hurdles (14.31), shot put (35-10), 200 (25.43), long jump and javelin (126-2).
Â
Paul's score of 5,632 is the fourth-best mark in the nation this season.
"I couldn't be more proud of Carly's performance and also the great work of her coach, Ken Hunt," said head coach Tim Springfield. "Carly has worked very hard for this."
