JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville recorded 14 hits as the Brown baseball team fell to the Dolphins, 11-2, in the final game of a four-game series Sunday at John Sessions Stadium.
Â
Brown moved to 1-9 on the season and Jacksonville improved to 9-6 overall.
Â
Mark Sluys (Gig Harbor, Wash.) led the Bears with two hits, including a double, and also added one RBI.
Â
AJ Jones secured the win on the mound for Jacksonville as he threw seven scoreless innings. Garett Delano (Callahan, Fla.) took the loss as the starter for the Bears with six runs over six innings with three strikeouts.
Â
"We took it on the chin from a quality opponent this weekend, and did not play well as a team," said head coach Grant Achilles. "We have faced both self-induced and externally applied adversity. This week is critical for us to regroup and respond together."
Â
The two teams kept it close in the opening four innings of the game, as the Dolphins held a two-run lead behind a pair of one-run frames, but the home side added three more on a trio of hits in the fifth.
Â
Brown jumped on the board in the top of the sixth. After Dalton Schroeder (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Willy Homza (Anchorage, Alaska) both reached base to lead off the inning, Calvin Farris (San Diego, Calif.) drove home one run with a sacrifice fly to center field.
Â
Jacksonville responded with six runs over the next two innings. Sluys gave the Bears their another run in the top of the ninth with a two-out RBI double to left center for his second hit of the game.
Â
Brown will host Fairfield in a four-game series next weekend. The first game is set for Friday (3/15) at 3 PM.
