PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University gymnastics is set to compete at the 2019 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division I Women's Gymnastics Championship at Newman Arena on the campus of Cornell University on Saturday at noon.

THE PREVIOUS OUTING
Freshman Mei Li Costa (Lawrenceville, N.J.) tied the program record on bars with a 9.900 as Brown scored a season-high 194.075 on Sunday afternoon at the Pizzitola Sports Center in a tri-meet with Bridgeport and Temple. In their regular season finale on Senior Day, the Bears eclipsed the 194 mark for the first time this year and scored a season-best 48.850 as a team on floor. Brown registered a 48.650 on vault, 48.475 on bars, and 48.100 on beam.

LAST YEAR'S ECAC CHAMPIONSHIP
Brown finished in third place as a team with a season-high score of 194.025 – crossing the 194 threshold for the first time on the season – at the 2018 ECAC Division I Women's Gymnastics Championship on Saturday, Mar. 24 at The Palestra. Cassidy Jung '19 (San Marino, Calif.) tied for third place on beam to gain First Team All-ECAC honors while Julia Green '19 (Exton, Pa.) tied for fifth place on vault to gain Second Team All-ECAC accolades. Anya Barca-Hall '18 (Santa Cruz, Calif.) garnered recognition as an ECAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Brown stands fifth in the ECAC with an NQS of 192.605, standing ahead of sixth-place William & Mary (192.520). Temple leads the league with an NQS of 194.775, sitting above Yale (194.930), Cornell (193.425), and Penn (193.605).

As a team, Brown ranks fifth in the ECAC, 11th in the Northeast Region, and 61st nationally with an NQS of 192.605. In the ECAC individual rankings, freshman Mei Li Costa (Lawrenceville, N.J.) ranks second on bars (9.840 NQS) and fourth on vault (9.770 NQS). Sophomore Kate Nelson (Montara, Calif.) stands sixth on bars (9.770 NQS), senior Julia Green (Exton, Pa.) ranks 10th on floor (9.795), and freshman Sophia Petrillo (Stoneham, Mass.) ranks fifth in the all-around (37.515 NQS).

WEEKLY HONORS
Brown totaled seven ECAC weekly awards on the year as a Brown gymnast won an ECAC weekly award in each of the first six weeks of the season. Freshman Mei Li Costa (Lawrenceville, N.J.) captured ECAC Rookie of the Week three times while senior Cassidy Jung (San Marino, Calif.) claimed Specialist of the Week on Jan. 23. Senior Morgan Hagenbuch (Norwich, N.Y.) and sophomores Alyssa Gardner (Angola, N.Y.) and Kate Nelson (Montara, Calif.) each won ECAC Coaches Choice accolades once.

Freshman Mei Li Costa (Lawrenceville, N.J.) won the vault title, and Brown scored a 192.200 at the 2019 Ivy Classic on Sunday, Feb. 24 at The Palestra at the University of Pennsylvania. Costa led a group of five Brown gymnasts who totaled seven All-Ivy Classic honors as she captured First Team All-Ivy Classic on vault behind her event win and Second Team All-Ivy Classic on bars.

Brown totaled 18 event titles on the season with freshman Mei Li Costa (Lawrenceville, N.J.) leading the way with nine titles – five on vault and four on bars. Other gymnasts with multiple titles included freshman Sophia Petrillo (Stoneham, Mass.) with two all-around titles and senior Julia Green (Exton, Pa.) with two floor titles.

After the ECAC Championship, Brown will look to qualify individuals to the NCAA Regionals from Apr. 4-6 and look to advance as a team to the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships from Apr. 12-14 at the University of Bridgeport in Bridgeport, Conn.
