PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Owen Russell (Attleboro, Mass.) of the Brown men's track & field team was named the Northeast Regional Male Field Athlete of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Friday, becoming the first athlete to win the award in program history.
Â
Russell is ranked 12th nationally in the weight throw at 21.93m (71-11½). He is 5-1 in the event this season with his lone loss coming at the Ivy League Championships two weeks ago, when he earned Second Team All-Ivy honors for the second time in as many seasons.
Â
Russell broke his own school record at Heps, which he set earlier this season, and the throw was sixth best in Ivy Championship meet history.

The senior will compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 8-9 in Birmingham, Alabama, as one of five men's and women's competitors from the Ivy League to qualify for the national championship.
