Costa Ties Bars Record, Gymnastics Scores Season-High 194.075 on Senior Day

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman Mei Li Costa tied the program record on bars with a 9.900 as Brown University gymnastics scored a season-high 194.075 on Sunday afternoon at the Pizzitola Sports Center in a tri-meet with the University of Bridgeport and Temple University.
"Today was a great way to send off our seniors in our final home meet," Brown gymnastics head coach Sara Carver-Milne said. "We've been working hard all year, and it was great to see that hard work pay off with a 194 in our last meet before ECACs."

In their regular season finale on Senior Day, the Bears eclipsed the 194 mark for the first time this year and scored a season-best 48.850 as a team on floor. Brown registered a 48.650 on vault, 48.475 on bars, and 48.100 on beam.

Costa (Lawrenceville, N.J.) matched the program record on bars with her first-place score of 9.900, winning her fourth bars title of the season.

In the team standings, Temple took first with a 195.075, Bridgeport placed second with a 194.825, and Brown finished third with its 194.075.

At the conclusion of the meet, Brown honored the four members of its senior class – Julia Green (Exton, Pa.), Morgan Hagenbuch (Norwich, N.Y.), Gabrielle Hechtman (Bellmore, N.Y.), and Cassidy Jung (San Marino, Calif.) – for their hard work and dedication to the program over the last four years.

On vault, Costa and sophomore Alyssa Gardner (Angola, N.Y.) paced the Bears with a 9.775 apiece, marking a career high for Gardner. Green tallied a 9.725, Hechtman notched a 9.700, and Hagenbuch posted a career-best 9.675.

Costa led all gymnasts with her school-record and career-best score of 9.900 on bars. Sophomore Kate Nelson (Montara, Calif.) placed third with a 9.800 while freshman Sophia Petrillo (Stoneham, Mass.) registered a 9.650. Sophomore Emma Hansen (Cincinnati, Ohio) posted a 9.625, and Gardner and sophomore Caroline Warren (Pawleys Island, S.C.) each scored a 9.500.

On beam, Jung paced Brown with a 9.800, finishing in third place, while Green posted a season-high score of 9.750. Sophomore Rose Domonoske (Park City, Utah) registered a 9.725, and Hansen tied her season high with a 9.675.

As part of the Bears' season-best performance on floor, Green tied her career high with a 9.850 for fourth place. Domonoske recorded a personal-best 9.775, and freshman Abby Walsh (White Lake, Mich.) and Petrillo each posted a 9.750 – a career high for Walsh. Gardner tallied a personal-best 9.725, and Hansen tied her season high with a 9.625.

Next, Brown will compete at the ECAC Championship on Saturday, Mar. 23 at noon at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.
