WINCHESTER, Mass. – The Brown women's tennis team defeated Boston University, 5-2, on Friday night. The Bears won the doubles point and took four of the six singles matches for their sixth win of the season.
"Today's match provided us the opportunity to continue working on competing under pressure," said head coach Lucie Schmidhauser. "I was very pleased with the progress we made in our doubles play. We came out much more aggressively in doubles and kept the pressure on throughout the match. Taylor Cosme and Alessandra Bianco came out very strong in singles and stayed committed to their respective game styles throughout their matches. Sophie Reddy and Courtney Kowalski showed a lot of resiliency in dealing with difficult opponents and they kept battling for each and every point. As a team, our players took a step in the right direction in understanding the importance of competing and staying engaged in their matches until the last point, win or lose."
Brown cruised through the doubles round with a 6-0 win by senior Katie Ta (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and freshman Sophia Reddy (Eden Prairie, Minn.) in the third spot and a 6-1 victory by junior Juliana Simon (Los Angeles, Calif.) and freshman Alessandra Bianco (Chicago, Ill.) in second doubles.
In singles' action, Reddy went the distance in second singles and posted a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 win while Bianco added a 6-3, 6-1 victory in the fifth position.
