Throughout the month of February, Brown Athletics will celebrate Black History Month through the "28 Days of Black at Brown" series. Each day during the month, the Bears will recognize African Americans who have made an impact on the university community and beyond.

One of the Bears' all-time great track stars, Teri Smith '91 won an astounding 18 Ivy League Heptagonal championships during her time on College Hill. Over the course of her career, she captured four titles in the outdoor 100 meters, three titles in the outdoor 200 meters, and three titles in the outdoor 4x400-meter relay as she totaled 12 outdoor Heps titles and six indoor Heps crowns. A 1996 inductee into the Brown Athletic Hall of Fame, she qualified for the NCAA Championships in the outdoor 400 meters three times and competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials in 1988 in the 400. A two-time team captain for the Bears, she held nine school records at the time of her graduation.
