FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Junior Signe Golash and freshman Casey Chan each posted 14-4 records in women's sabre to pace Brown University fencing at the Sacred Heart Invitational on Sunday at the Pitt Center.

"I'm very pleased with the effort and result of the team during this new addition to our schedule," Brown head coach Alex Ripa said. "Facing some of the toughest teams in fencing, Brown stood tall and brought home a couple of wins. I'm looking forward to our next meet and to watching this team keep pushing forward."

The Bears combined for a 4-8 team record on the day as both the men's and women's sides went 2-4 at the event.

The women earned victories over Vassar (16-11) and Sacred Heart (21-6), while falling to Penn State (19-8), Princeton (15-12), Temple (20-7), and NYU (16-11). The men topped Vassar (15-12) and Sacred Heart (16-11) while dropping decisions to Penn State (16-11), Princeton (23-4), NJIT (18-9), and NYU (18-9).

At the squad level, women's sabre paced Brown with a 4-2 mark and 34-20 composite score. Men's sabre followed with a 3-3 record. Men's epee and women's foil both went 2-4 while men's sabre and women's epee each finished 1-5.

Golash (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Chan (Cresskill, N.J.) tallied the Bears' top individual records at the event with their 14-4 marks in women's sabre. Freshman Anisha Kasi (New City, N.Y.) supported them with a 12-3 record in women's foil.

In men's foil, freshmen Ryan Scarpa (Manhasset, N.Y.) and Nick Andrade (Quincy, Mass.) went 11-7 and 10-8 respectively. Junior Nathan Sinai (Merion Station, Pa.) notched an 11-7 mark in men's epee, and freshman Ronald Yuan (Birmingham, Ala.) paced men's sabre with eight wins.

Next, Brown competes at Northeast Fencing Conference Meet No. 2 on Saturday, Jan. 25 at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
