
Stony Brook Uses 3-Point Barrage To Topple Brown, 79-63

Stony Brook, N.Y.-Â Â Stony Brook connected on a season high 14 treys, led by Elijah Olaniyi's career high 30 points and six treys, to get past Brown, 79-63, Saturday evening at Island Federal Arena.

The game was decided at the 3-point line with the Seawolves connecting on 14-of-25 treys overall, while Brown converted 7-of-26 treys.

"Defensively, we didn't do a good enough job contesting their shooters on the perimeter and offensively, we weren't as good as we needed to be with our execution," said Brown head coach Mike Martin. "They deserve a lot of credit for both of those issues, but we need to be better."

Stony Brook converted 28-of-53 field goals overall (53-percent), and Brown hit 23-of-63 field goals (37-percent)

Brown junior Tamenang Choh (Lowell, MA) scored a team high 19 points, knocking down a career high three 3-point baskets and hitting 8-of-17 field goals overall, while grabbing seven rebounds.

Bears' senior Brandon Anderson (Mahwah, NJ) had 13 points and seven assists, matching his career high in handouts, and senior Zach Hunsaker (North Salt Lake City, UT) added eight points. Senior Joshua Howard (Charlotte, NC) scored six points and pulled down a team high eight rebounds

Olaniyi connected on 6-of-8 treys in scoring his 30 points and added seven rebounds. Makale Foreman also scored in double figures for the Seawolves with 17 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the 3-point arc.

Brown came to play at the outset, outscoring Stony Brook, 20-10, to open the game following a short jump shot by Choh with 12:06 remaining in the half.  A 10-0 run by the Seawolves, capped by a trey by Jordan McKenzie, evened the score, 20-20.

But Stony Brook held the Bears to seven points in the last 12 minutes, finishing the half with a 13-7 run to pull ahead, 33-27, at intermission.

The Seawolves broke the game open in the second half,  building 46-34 lead to start the half.  In the run, Stony Brook connected on three treys, with the run capped off by a dunk by Mouhamadou Guye with 14:22 remaining.

Brown travels to Jamaica, New York to take on St. John's on Tuesday, December 10 in its final game of the first semester.  It's the third all-time meeting between the Bears and Red Storm and first since the fall of 2009. Tip-off  at Carnesecca Arena is 7:00 pm on FS1.
