
Women’s Soccer’s Cummings, Thompson Earn Scholar All-America Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's soccer junior center back Sydney Cummings has earned First Team Scholar All-America honors, and junior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson has gained Third Team Scholar All-America accolades, the United Soccer Coaches announced on Wednesday.
The pair earned academic accolades for the second time this week as each student-athlete garnered First Team Scholar All-East Region laurels on Monday.
The duo led a Brown defense that ranked second in the NCAA in goals allowed (eight), third in save percentage (.890), and fourth in GAA (0.40), while setting a program record with 13 shutouts.
A native of Millstone Township, N.J., and an English concentrator, Cummings garnered Second Team All-America laurels, earned First Team All-Ivy honors unanimously, and gained First Team All-East Region accolades this fall. She played all 1,790 minutes on the season, while ranking third in the Ivy League in assists (seven). For her career, she has played 4,803 of a possible 4,822 minutes (99.6 percent).
A native of Austin, Texas, and a Public Health concentrator, Thompson earned First Team All-Ivy honors and garnered First Team All-East Region accolades after joining the Bears as a transfer from West Virginia University. She ranked sixth in the NCAA in save percentage (.892) and ninth in goals-against average (0.44). Thompson led the Ivy League in GAA, save percentage, and shutouts (nine) while ranking third in total saves (58) and fourth in saves per game (3.63).
In 2019, the Bears posted an overall record of 14-2-3, while registering an undefeated 6-0-1 mark in Ivy League play, finishing the year unbeaten in conference play for the first time since 1994. Brown notched an 11-0-1 mark at home, including an 11-0-0 record during the regular season.
Brown won its 13th Ivy League title in program history, tied for the most in conference history, while making its seventh all-time appearance in the NCAA Championship. The Bears advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament after topping Monmouth in a penalty kick shootout, 4-1.
In the final national rankings, Brown stood at No. 11 in the Top Drawer Soccer poll, No. 13 in the NCAA RPI, and No. 23 in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
