
Men’s Water Polo’s Deirmenjian, Rawlings, Thygesen Earn All-America Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University men's water polo seniors Armen Deirmenjian, Hudson Rawlings, and James Thygesen have all earned ACWPC Honorable Mention All-America honors, the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches announced on Tuesday.
Now a two-time All-American, Deirmenjian (Beverly Hills, Calif.) also gained First Team All-NWPC and First Team NWPC All-Tournament Team honors this fall. He led the team in steals (45) and field blocks (40), while ranking second on the team in assists (47) and ejections drawn (55) and fourth in goals (42). Deirmenjian tallied multiple goals in each of 13 games and distributed multiple assists 18 times.
A two-time Second Team All-NWPC selection and a first time All-America honoree, Rawlings (Murrieta, Calif.) ranked third on the team in assists (38), steals (20), and ejections drawn (34) and second in field blocks (14), while scoring 24 goals on the season. Rawlings scored a season-high three goals four times.
Thygesen (Menlo Park, Calif.) earned Second Team All-NWPC and Second Team NWPC All-Tournament Team accolades this fall. He led the team in goals (75), assists (52), and sprints won (17), while adding 17 steals, eight ejections drawn, and eight field blocks on the season. Thygesen netted three or more goals in each of 17 games and compiled five or more points in each of 12 contests.
With 22 wins in 2019, Brown posted its ninth 20-win season in the last 10 years and registered 20 or more wins for the 11th time during the 13-year tenure of head coach Felix Mercado. The Bears closed the season with a No. 19 national ranking.
