
Women’s Hockey Travels to Merrimack and Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After a weekend off, the Brown women's hockey team will compete in two non-conference games, starting at Merrimack on Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 5:00 p.m., and ending at Providence on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 12:00 p.m. in the 25th Mayor's Cup. The Brown women and men will play the Friars back-to-back for the Mayor's Cup, with the men's game slated for 4:00 p.m. at Schneider Arena.

SCOUTING THE WARRIORS
Merrimack enters the contest against the Bears with a 3-11-2 overall record and a 1-9-2 mark in the Hockey East. The Warriors have lost their last four games, including the last two against Brown's next opponent, Providence, 2-1 on Nov. 22 and 3-2 in overtime on Nov. 23. Mikyla Grant-Mentis leads the team in points with 21 on 13 goals and eight assists. Keisha DiCaire paces the team in assists with 10 and also has one goal for 11 points, second-best on the team. Léa-Kristine Demers leads the netminders with 12 games played and has a 3.24 goals-against average, a .894 save percentage and one shutout (3-0 vs. Rensselaer, Oct. 4). Emma Gorski has also seen time between the pipes and has a 2.97 GAA and a .910 save percentage in five appearances.
SCOUTING THE FRIARS
Providence stands at 7-6-2 on the season and 5-4-0 in the Hockey East. The Friars most recently defeated Merrimack with a 2-1 win on Nov. 22 and a 3-2 overtime victory on Nov. 23. Providence has won its last three, with the addition of a 3-2 victory over Vermont on Nov. 17. Whitney Dove leads the squad in scoring with 12 points on three goals and nine assists. Maureen Murphy is second with 11 points on a team-best seven goals and four assists. Clare Minnerath has seen action in 12 contests in net and has a 2.41 goals-against average and a .897 save percentage along with one shutout (1-0 vs. No. 3 Northeastern, Oct. 25). Sandra Abstreiter has competed in four games this year and has a 1.98 GAA, a .922 save percentage and one shutout (1-0 at Holy Cross, Nov. 1).
BROWN TALKING POINTS
Under the guidance of second-year head coach Carisa Zaban Wahlig, the Bears look to continue making strides in the highly competitive ECAC in 2019-20. The Bears boasts nine underclassmen and an experienced junior and senior class that is comprised of 10 student-athletes. Sophomore Shay Maloney is the team's top returning point scorer from 2018-19, with seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points. Named the team MVP following the season, Maloney led the Bears with three power-play goals and also ranked third in blocked shots (58). All three of Brown's netminders from last season return, with sophomore Hayley Kliczko and senior Calla Isaac starting 14 and 13 games, respectively.
Maloney leads the team in scoring so far this season with four goals and one assist for five points. Senior Maybelline Beiring (1-2-3) and juniors Darby Melia (2-1-3) and Megan Forrest (1-2-3) are tied for second in scoring with three points apiece. Calla Isaac leads the netminding group with seven games played and a .913 save percentage. The Sherwood Park, Alberta native stopped a career-best 55 shots at Harvard on Nov. 1 and turned away 31 shots in a 2-1 win over RPI on Nov. 8. She has recorded 40 or more saves in back-to-back games entering the week and has stopped 30 or more shots in five-consecutive games.
MAYOR'S CUP
Providence will host the 25th installment of the Mayor's Cup on Saturday, Nov. 30 at Schneider Arena starting at 12:00 p.m. The series between the inter-city rivals began in 1996 with Brown coming away victorious, 4-3, on January 24 in the inaugural game. Providence has won the last five matchups and has the edge in the Mayor's Cup series, 11-10-3.
THE ECAC/IVY LEAGUE ON ESPN
Video of all home contests and all ECAC/Ivy League games, home and away (excluding at RPI), will be broadcast live on ESPN+. Fans can subscribe and view games by purchasing a monthly package for $4.99 or a yearly package for $49.99.
