Field Hockey Hosts Cal, Travels to No. 13 Harvard

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown field hockey team returns to non-conference action on Thursday, Oct. 10, welcoming Cal to Goldberger Family Field at 4:00 p.m., before resuming Ivy play on the road at No. 13 Harvard on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 1:00 p.m.

THE BEARS
Sophomore Danielle van Rootselaar leads the team in points with 11 on four goals and two assist. Last weekend, van Rootselaar factored in all three of the Bears' goals in a 3-1 win over Dartmouth, assisting the first two while providing the game's final tally. Senior Gina Openshaw shares the squad's goal lead with van Rootselaar with her four tallies for eight points. The Annapolis, Md. native is tied for 13th all-time at Brown with 19 career goals. Calista Manuzza has started four games in the cage and has a 3.00 goals-against average and a .609 save percentage. Manuzza and fellow rookie Jodie Brine combined for a shutout in Brown's 3-0 win over Hofstra on Sept. 22.

LAST TIME OUT
Brown's strong second half led to a 3-1 victory over Dartmouth on Saturday in Ivy League action at Goldberger Family Field. Sophomore Danielle van Rootselaar had a hand in all three of the Bears' goals, with two assists and one goal on the day. After a scoreless first half, senior Gina Openshaw scored the first goal of the afternoon in the third quarter while senior Hannah Leckey and van Rootselaar added the final two tallies in the fourth.

SCOUTING CAL
Cal is 4-7 this season and has played a total of six ranked teams, going 0-6 in those contests. Last week, the Golden Bears went 1-1 with a 4-3 double overtime loss to No. 14 Syracuse (Oct. 4) and an 8-1 win versus Central Michigan (Oct. 6). Megan Rodgers leads the team in points (15) with six goals and three assists. Katrina Carter also has six goals and one assists to rank second in points (13). Femke Delissen leads Cal in defensive saves with three on the year while also contributing one goal and six assists. Natalie Dalton has started all 11 games in the cage and has a 2.74 goals-against average and a .698 save percentage.

ALL-TIME VS. CAL
Brown and Cal have met just once, with the Golden Bears picking up a 2-1 overtime win at Goldberger Field on Sept. 25, 2015.

SCOUTING HARVARD
Harvard is 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the Ivy League with wins over Yale (2-1, Sept. 28) and Penn (6-2, Oct. 5). The Crimson have won six-straight while their two losses came against No. 4 UConn (3-0, Sept. 8) and No. 18 Stanford (2-1 PS, Oct. 12). Harvard is currently ranked 13th in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Preseason Poll. Bente van Vlijmen leads the team in points (16) with six goals and four assists while Casey Allen ranks second with three goals and five assists (11 points). Van Vlijmen's ranks third in the conference in points and is tied for fourth in goals while Casey is tied for third in assists. Ellie Shahbo has started all nine games in goal and has the top Ivy League goals against average (1.10 GAA) and the second-best save percentage (.744).

ALL-TIME VS. HARVARD
Harvard leads the all-time series, 27-12-8, and have won the last four contests. Brown last picked up a win in 2014, a 4-3 double overtime victory in Providence.
