PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown field hockey team (3-3, 0-1 Ivy League) earned a 4-3 overtime win over Providence (6-2, 1-0 Big East) on Sunday afternoon at Goldberger Family Field.

Kiersten Smith scored the game-winning goal in overtime for the Bears, while Mia Karine Myklebust found the back of the net twice and Grace Almeida scored once. Ellie Parker matched a career-high with 10 saves in the win.

The Friars outshot the Bears 21-12 (13-8 on net), while Brown had five corner opportunities to Providence's four.

The Friars opened the scoring 9:36 into the first quarter, taking a 1-0 advantage into the second stanza. There, Almeida leveled the game at one with a goal off of a penalty corner chance as the game entered the second half knotted at one. Parker made three saves in the opening 30 minutes as Providence outshot Brown 6-4.

The Friars regained the lead late in the third quarter before Myklebust scored her first goal of the game on a strong individual effort just 1:06 after Providence took the lead. With the score knotted at two entering the fourth quarter, Myklebust gave Brown its first lead with her second goal of the game early in the fourth, before the Friars leveled the game with 1:37 remaining in regulation.

Smith's overtime winner was assisted by Kate Siedem. It is the third-straight time the Bears have beaten the Friars.

Brown will return to action on Friday, Sept. 25 when it continues Ivy League play against Columbia at 3 p.m. at Goldberger Family Field.
