BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Senior Cameron Daly (Meredith, N.H.) came in 37th place in the men's race while junior Hannah Butler (Jamesville, N.Y.) led the women in 39th to pace the Brown men's and women's cross country teams at the 46th Paul Short Run on Saturday.
"Hannah and Cam did great work leading the teams today," said head coach Tim Springfield. "Griffin McCauley also had a nice breakthrough. We aren't where we want to be healthwise, but I think we're getting there. The next few weeks of practice will be crucial for both teams."
With both teams competing at partial strength, the men finished 20th out of 45 teams while the women came in 32nd out of 43 programs at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course.
In a field of 490 runners, Daly's 37th place finish of 24:05.1 led the Bears while junior Dominic Morganti (Syracuse, N.Y.) (24:36.0) and sophomore Griffin McCauley (Stone Mountain, Ga.) (24:36.1) finished back-to-back in 105th and 106th place, respectively. Junior Jared Yabu (Moraga, Calif.) (24:51.9, 148th) also finished in the top half of the race. In the men's open, freshman Gabriel Cannavo (Staten Island, N.Y.) was Brown's top finisher with a time of 25:49.1 (111th) out of 604 runners.
Butler finished the women's race with a time of 20:44.7 for 39th place out of 365 participants. It is her third-straight race this season as Brown's top finisher. Junior Ally Hajda (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) (21:20.0, 109th) and senior Chloe Conway (Manchester, N.H.) (21:32.0, 137th) also turned in strong performances for the Bears.
