
Cross Country Takes First at Rothenberg Run

EAST GREENWICH R.I. – Juniors Dominic Morganti (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Samantha Valentine (Middleton, Wis.) took first in their respective races as the Brown men's and women's cross country teams finished first at the annual the Rothenberg Run Friday afternoon at Goddard State Park.
The men scored 25 points with an average time of 25:41 while the women recorded 34 points with an 18:28 average time.
Morganti won with the men's 8k race with a time of 25:10.0 while sophomore Griffin McCauley (Stone Mountain, Ga.) (25:33.0, third) and junior Jared Yabu (Moraga, Calif.) (25:46.7, fifth) collected top-5 finishes. Freshmen Nate Price (Edinboro, Pa.) (25:57.6, seventh) and Ford Shaper (Castle Rock, Colo.) (25:59.4, ninth) also had strong performances for the Bears.
Valentine crossed the line in 17:17.2 to lead the women and 23 runners in the 5k race while junior Ally Hajda (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) followed in second (18:03.3). Freshman Sarah Reichheld (Concord, Mass.) was the third Brown runner to make it in the top-10 as her finish of 18:47.4 grabbed eighth place.
Brown will next compete at the Ivy League Championships on Friday, Nov. 1 at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y.
