
Field Hockey Welcomes Holy Cross and No. 8 Princeton

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown field hockey team will host two games this week at Goldberger Family Field, starting with Holy Cross on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 4:00 p.m. and ending with No. 8 Princeton on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 12:00 p.m.

THE BEARS
Sophomore Danielle van Rootselaar leads the team in points with 16 on six goals and four assist. Van Rootselaar has recorded at least one point in her last four games with 13 points (5G, 3A) in that span. Senior Gina Openshaw ranks second in scoring with four goals and two assists for 10 points. The Annapolis, Md. native is tied for 13th all-time at Brown with 19 career goals. Calista Manuzza has started six games in the cage and has a 4.00 goals-against average and a .574 save percentage. Manuzza and fellow rookie Jodie Brine combined for a shutout in Brown's 3-0 win over Hofstra on Sept. 22.
LAST TIME OUT
Brown went 1-1 last week, with a 3-2 win over Cal on Thursday and a 9-1 loss at No. 13 Harvard on Sunday. Against the Golden Bears, sophomore Danielle van Rootselaar scored two goals, including the game winner in the fourth quarter while senior Hannah Leckey also recorded a tally. Senior Corinne Condie scored the Bears' lone goal on Sunday.
SCOUTING HOLY CROSS
Holy Cross is 6-6 this season with a 2-2 mark in the Patriot League. The Crusaders split last week with a 3-2 loss at American on Friday and a 2-1 win over Vermont on Sunday. Minke Koomen leads the squad in scoring with seven goals and three assists for 17 points. Madeline Alderfer ranks second with eight points, on one goal and a team-best six assists. Marcia LaPlante anchors the defense in the cage with a 1.97 goals-against average and a .808 save percentage.
ALL-TIME VS. HOLY CROSS
Brown leads the all-time series versus the Crusaders, 23-11. The Bears won last year's meeting, 4-0, in Worcester, Mass. while Holy Cross' last victory came in 2017, 4-1, in Providence.
SCOUTING PRINCETON
Harvard is 8-4 overall and 3-0 in the Ivy League with wins over Dartmouth (4-0,), Yale (4-3 OT) and Columbia (8-1). The Tigers have won five-straight with their last loss coming at No. 4 Maryland, 4-3 OT, on Sept 24. Princeton has played nine ranked opponents and has a 5-4 record in those contests. The Tigers are currently ranked eighth in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Poll. Princeton leads the conference in goals scored (3.17 per game) and assists (2.50 per game). Clara Roth paces the quad and the Ivy League in points (24) with eight goals and eight assists, which both also lead the conference. Julianna Tornetta is tied with Roth in assists with eight, and also has one goal for 10 points. Three other players have double digit points for the Tigers. Grace Baylius has started all 12 games and has a 2.15 goals-against average, a .583 save percentage and two shutouts.
