CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Brown field hockey team was defeated by No. 13 Harvard, 9-1, on Sunday at Berylson Field. The Crimson scored three goals in the first and fourth quarters on the way to their victory.

"It was a tough loss against a strong Harvard team," said head coach Jill Reeve. "We have positive takeaways and learning points that will be essential as we move forward. Kelly Raymond, Ana Claire Piacentini and Lindsey Ross all had solid performances in the effort."

Harvard (8-3, 3-0 Ivy League) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter with scores at 3:48 (Casey Allen), 4:47 (Olivia Hoover) and 12:56 (Mimi Tarrant). Senior Corinne Condie (St. Louis, Mo.) put Brown (4-7, 1-2 Ivy League) on the board with her goal at 14:59, coming on a deflection on sophomore Danielle van Rootselaar's (Bilthoven, Netherlands) shot following a penalty corner.

Bente Vlijmen brought the game to 4-1 with her tally at 15:52 of the second while Natalie Sicher added a score before halftime (24:59).

Harvard outshot Brown, 14-6, through the first two periods and had a 6-4 edge in penalty corners, with each team taking three in the first quarter.

Sicher added her second tally at 31:59 to open the second half. The Bears limited the Crimson to just one shot in the third period.

Harvard scored three goals in the fourth, which included Tarrant's second of the afternoon (51:56), to bring the game to its final of 9-1.

The Crimson held a 24-7 advantage overall in shots and a 9-4 lead in penalty corners for the contest, taking three corners in the first, second and fourth quarters.

Freshman Calista Manuzza (North Caldwell, N.J.) finished with a career-high eight saves while Ellie Shabo made four stops in the opposing cage.

Brown will next host two-straight games, starting with Holy Cross on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 4:00 p.m. and ending with No. 7 Princeton on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 12:00 p.m.
