Providence, R.I. – Two high scoring offensive team got together at Brown Stadium Saturday afternoon with Holy Cross (3-3) coming out on top of a 47-31 decision over Brown (1-3) in the Bears' final non-league game of the season.

"This was a hard fought game against a good Holy Cross team playing at a high level," said Brown head coach James Perry. "we had a lot of missed opportunities, and turned the ball over too many times. I expect a good week of practice and look forward to getting back to Ivy play next week."

Bears' junior quarterback EJ Perry (Andover, MA) threw for 237 yards and rushed for another 47 yards, completing 25-of-49 throws.  He connected on touchdown passes of eight and 57 yards, both to junior wide receiver Scott Boylan (Bakersfield, CA) who finished with five receptions for 97 yards. Seniors Jakob Prall (Tipp City, OH) and Demitri Jackson (Nashua, NH) caught four passes each.

Brown sophomore Allen Smith (Westerville, OH) scored a one-yard touchdown run and rushed for 45 yards overall, while senior Andrew Bolton (Troy, NY) scored on a two-yard run, rushing for 18 yards overall.

Senior tackle Michael Hoecht (Oakwood, OH) paced the Bears' defense with nine tackles, including eight solo stops and two tackles for loss. Junior Izayah Powell (Bronx, NY), making his first appearance of the season,  and sophomore Jason Medeiros (Rehoboth, MA) each chipped in with eight tackles each.

For the Crusaders, quarterback Connor Degenhardt threw for 315 yards and four touchdowns, completing 20-of-33 passes. Crusaders wide receiver Spencer Gilliam caught 10 passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns.

Holy Cross capitalized on an early Brown turnover, taking a 7-0 lead on a 21-yard run by Domenik Cozier at the 11:49 mark.

Smith's one-yard touchdown came on the heels of a 25-yard run by Perry to even the score, 7-7, with 8:35 left in the opening quarter.

Holy Cross kicker Derek Ng booted field goals of 34 and 25 yards to put the Crusaders up, 13-7, after one quarter.

Bolton responded by plowing into the end zone from two yards out to lift Brown to a 14-13 advantage with 12:45 left in the half, Brown's last lead of the game.

Consecutive touchdown catches by the combo of Asante from Degenhardt, the first a 69 yard grab and the second a five yard catch, lifted Holy Cross to a 27-14 advantage.

Brown senior Dawson Goepferich (Holt, MO) booted a 25-yard field goal on the last play of the half to trail, 27-17, at intermission.

Holy Cross scored on its first possession of the second half for a 34-17 lead, with Degenhardt tossing 4 yard scoring strike to Gilliam.

The wide-open shootout continued when the Bears drove 74 yards on nine plays, with Boylan pulling down an eight-yard touchdown reception to trail 34-24.

The Crusaders relentless rushing attack continued with Peter Oliver scoring on a two-yard run up the middle for a 41-24 Holy Cross lead with 11:49 remaining in the game. Oliver finished with a game high 88 yards.

A 57-yard scoring strike from Perry to Boylan with 10:51 left to play got the Bears back in the game, trailing 41-31.

Degenhardt and Gilliam combined for a 72-yard pass play for a 47-31 Holy Cross advantage with nine minutes left to account for the final score.

Brown wraps-up its three-game home stand with an Ivy League matchup against Princeton on Saturday, October 19. It's Family Weekend and kick-off on ESPN+ is 12:30pm at Brown Stadium.
