LANCASTER, Pa. – Sophomore Nino Bastianelli and senior Tucker Ziegler placed sixth in the 184-pound and 197-pound weight classes respectively to lead Brown University wrestling at the David H. Lehman Franklin & Marshall Open on Saturday at the Alumni Sports and Fitness Center.
Â
Bastianelli (Marysville, Mich.) and Ziegler (Myersville, Md.) both placed at the event for the second consecutive year as the Bears totaled 21 wins, including nine bonus-point victories, on the day.
Â
"Today was a good day for us to get a number of our wrestlers more experience before we head into the dual meet portion of our schedule," head coach Todd Beckerman said. "It was great to see Nino and Tucker place at this event for the second straight year, and we are excited to compete in three duals in North Carolina next weekend."
Â
As a team, Brown posted its nine bonus-point wins on three falls, five major decisions, and one technical fall. At the 2018 F&M Open, Ziegler finished third at 197, and Bastianelli came in fourth at 184.
Â
Bastianelli won three of his first four matches on the day, including a victory over Harvard's Cliffton Wang to reach the fifth-place match before falling to Jacob Ferreira.
Â
Ziegler tallied four consecutive victories after dropping his opening bout prior to dropping a decision to Old Dominion's Noah Bushman in the fifth-place match. Ziegler earned wins over F&M, Sacred Heart, and Campbell as part of his four-match win streak.
Â
Freshman Colin Realbuto (Somers, N.Y.) registered four victories – all coming in consecutive fashion – at 141 pounds. He charted wins over Kutztown, NC State, Maryland, and Princeton during the run.
Â
Junior Theo Powers (Mexico, N.Y.) and freshman Samuel Lynch (Foster, R.I.) posted two wins apiece at 141 and 149 pounds respectively.
Â
Brown wrestlers to earn one win each included senior Travis Vasquez (Fair Lawn, N.J.), junior Jimmy Pawelski (Park Ridge, Ill.), and freshmen Reese Fry (Manchester, Mich.), Charlie Faber (Glen Ellyn, Ill.), Jack Bokina (Mattituck, N.Y.), and Cade Wilson (Nazareth, Pa.).
Â
Next, Brown begins the dual meet portion of its season with match-ups in the state of North Carolina against Davidson (Jan. 11, 3:00 p.m.), NC State (Jan. 12, 3:00 p.m.), and Duke (Jan. 12, 7:00 p.m.).
