New Haven, Conn. - Brown and Yale played for the second time in the last six days with the Bulldogs earning their second straight Ivy League win over the Bears, 79-71, Friday evening, behind Alex Copeland's 19 points at the John J. Lee Amphitheater.
Yale improves to 12-3, 2-0 in the Ivy League, while Brown falls to 12-6 overall, 0-2 in Ivy play.
"We're still a work in progress offensively and need to find a way to get our offense going," said Brown head coach Mike Martin. "We need to improve every day, work on our offensive spacing and defensive rebounding."
Bears' sophomore Tamenang Choh (Lowell, MA) played like a warrior once again, posting his second straight double-double against the Bulldogs. He scored a career high 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field and grabbed 15 rebounds, one short of his career best, while handing out five assists.
Sophomore Desmond Cambridge (Nashville, TN) continued to struggle from the field for the Bears, connecting on 5-of-17 field goals, including 1-of-7 from beyond the three-point arc, in scoring 14 points. Senior Obi Okolie (Ajax, Ontario) also scored in double figures for Brown with 10 points, adding three rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals.
Copeland's 19 points came on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. Bulldogs' forward Miye Oni posted a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Blake Reynolds also scored 15 points.
Yale led by as many as 11 points in the opening half, 34-23, following a layup by Oni at the 4:09 mark.
The Bears pulled to within seven points at the half, 37-30, after closing with a 7-3 run, sparked by four points by Cambridge.
A trey by Cambridge at the 12:15 mark of the second half pulled Brown to within six points, 50-44. But the Bulldogs answered with a 13-2 spurt to take control of the game, 63-46, capped off by a trey by Oni with 6:39 left in the game.
Brown hits the road for its first full Ivy League weekend, traveling to Hanover, NH, on Friday, February 1 to face Dartmouth, and Saturday, February 2 against Harvard in Boston, MA. Both games tip-off at 7:00 pm and are being broadcast on ESPN+ and WPRV AM-790.
