
Men’s Tennis Bests St. John’s, 4-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown men's tennis team opened the spring campaign with a 4-0 win over St. John's at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Saturday. Senior Charles Tan (Austin, Texas) recorded a singles win over the 102nd ranked player to highlight the action for the Bears.
"This was a great college tennis match," said head coach Tim Gray. "St. John's is a very, very good team and they are going to win a lot of matches this year. I am really proud of the way we fought today. When the pressure came we stepped up. Not one guy backed down."
Brown opened the match sweeping all three doubles matches. Junior Jacob Walker (Bethesda, Md.) and sophomore Teddy van Eck (Rye, N.Y.) led off with a 6-2 win in the second spot. Tan and freshman Roger Chou (Austin, Texas) clinched the point for the Bears in third doubles with a 6-3 victory. Sophomore Ching Lam (Sai Kung, Hong Kong) and junior Peter Litsky (St. Petersburg, Fla.) concluded the round with a 7-6 (4) win in first doubles.
In singles, Litsky came from behind to record a 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (2) win in the first position. Lam followed in second singles and also posted a three-set victory, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. Tan finished the match for Brown in fourth singles defeating No. 102 Aditya Vashistha, 6-7 (6), 6-3 6-4.
The Bears next host Boston University and Binghamton at the Pizzitola Sports Center tomorrow, Sunday, Jan. 20. The match against the Terriers will start at 10:00 a.m. while the contest versus the Bearcats will begin at 3:00 p.m.
