Providence, R.I. - The 10th-ranked Brown women's squash team extended their record to 5-3 overall with two road wins, 7-2 win over #16 Amherst and an 8-1 decision over #27 Mt. Holyoke, completing a stretch of playing five matches in the last five days.
"We have played a lot of matches in a short space of time, and it was awesome to see their application to the task at hand," said head coach Stuart leGassick after the Amherst match. "The team turned up to compete."
Commenting on the Mt. Holyoke match, leGassick said, "The team played well and it was great see players who do not regularly compete play so well too. We are in a good spot for our next match."
Playing number one, sophomore Alexa Jacobs set the tone for the day with a 3-0 win over Amherst.
Earning wins over both Amherst and Mt. Holyoke were junior Hannah Seckendorf at two, freshman Abagail Dichter at numbers four and three, junior Scarlett Bergam at seven and four, and sophomore Catherine Kimmel at numbers nine and six, respectively.
Also winning against Amherst were senior Katrina Northrop at five and freshman Isabella Kearns at six.
In the Mt. Holyoke match, freshman Sara Syed came through, 3-0 at number five, freshman Naomi Shammash earned a 3-0 decision at eight and senior Chloe So took a 3-0 decision at nine.
The Bears will return to the hardwood courts again on Saturday, January 19, facing Middlebury at 2:30 pm in a match held at Harvard.
