
Costa, Domonoske Win Events, Gymnastics Closes Trip to Alaska Anchorage

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Freshman Mei Li Costa placed first on vault and bars, and sophomore Rose Domonoske tied for first on beam, but Brown University gymnastics dropped a 191.025 to 188.900 decision to the University of Alaska Anchorage on Sunday afternoon at Alaska Airlines Center.

Costa (Lawrenceville, N.J.) won the bars title with a 9.850 and the vault title with a 9.675 while Domonoske (Park City, Utah) claimed a share of the beam title with a career-high 9.825 as the Bears completed their season-opening weekend with their second dual meet against the Seawolves. The Bears made their first trip to Alaska Anchorage – the alma mater of Brown head coach Sara Carver-Milne – since February 2010.
"We made some improvements today and showed progress from our meet on Friday, which is important to see early in the season," Carver-Milne said. "Our team had the trip of a lifetime to Alaska, and we are excited to return home to host Southern Connecticut in our home opener next Sunday."

As a team, the Bears scored a 47.900 on vault, a 47.875 on bars, a 47.500 on beam, and a 45.625 on floor, surpassing their scores from Friday's meet against the Seawolves on bars, beam, floor, and the overall team score.

Costa paced the Bears on vault with her first-place score of 9.675 while sophomore Kate Nelson (Montara, Calif.) tallied a 9.575. Seniors Morgan Hagenbuch (Norwich, N.Y.), Gabrielle Hechtman (Bellmore, N.Y.), and Julia Green (Exton, Pa.) each posted a 9.550, tying a career high for Hagenbuch.

On bars, Costa scored a meet-high 9.850 while sophomore Emma Hansen (Cincinnati, Ohio) followed with a 9.575. Junior Erin Howell (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) registered a 9.500, and sophomore Caroline Warren (Pawleys Island, S.C.) and freshman Abby Walsh (White Lake, Mich.) each notched a 9.475.

Domonoske led the Bears on beam with a career-high 9.825, tying for first place. Hagenbuch, Green, and Hansen supported her with a 9.625, 9.550, and 9.450 respectively.

On floor, Domonoske posted a team-high 9.500, Hagenbuch added a 9.300, and Green tacked on a 9.025.

Next, Brown hosts Southern Connecticut State University in its home opener at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Sunday, Jan. 20 at 1:00 p.m.
