CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Brown men's swimming & diving team was defeated by Penn, 174.50-125.50, and fell to Harvard, 216.50-83.50, in an Ivy League tri-meet at Blodgett Pool on Saturday.
"Our men's team had a very solid meet this weekend against both Harvard and Penn," said head coach Chris Ip. "This was our first Ivy meet of the 2018-19 season, and we saw a little bit of rust on our race strategies and techniques. But, we were pleasantly surprised by how quickly our large freshman class have adapted to collegiate competition. We are looking forward to continuing to watch this team gel as we prepare for upcoming meets against Columbia and Cornell."
The 200 medley relay team of junior Joon Sung (Los Angeles, Calif.), freshman Daniel Alber (Newton, Mass.), senior Nicholas Brown (Sudbury, Mass.) and junior Cody Cline (Wellington, Fla.) took third overall to start the meet (1:30.31). The time was faster than every dual-meet 200 medley relays from the past two seasons.
Freshman Nico Ortega (Caracas, Venezuela/Westport, Conn.) secured third against Penn in the 1000 freestyle (9.45.15).
Winning the 200 freestyle against Penn and taking third against Harvard was sophomore Michael Lincoln (Palo Alto, Calif.) in 1:39.78. Cline was sixth overall (1:41.43) and third against Penn while freshman Lucas Hess (Salt Lake City, Utah) followed up in fourth against Penn (1:42.54).

Brown also won the 200 backstroke against Penn in 1:48.37, taking second overall, with Sullivan again following behind him, this time in fourth overall (1:51.17), and in third against both Harvard and Penn.
