Weiss ’15 Advances at World Championships

PLOVDIV, BULGARIA – Former Brown men's rower Anders Weiss (Barrington, R.I.) has advanced to the quarterfinals in the men's pair at the 2018 World Rowing Championships held in Bulgaria.

Weiss, who is representing the United States in the men's pair with Michael Colella (Cornell '16), placed fourth in their heat to advance to the quarterfinals. The duo passed the Netherlands during the third 500 meters and held on to fourth place, crossing in a time of 6:29.25 to avoid the repechage and advance directly to the next round, which will take place on Wednesday.

Weiss and Colella finished 11th in the men's pair at last year's World Championships in Florida. Weiss also represented the United States at the 2016 Olympic Games, where he took 11th overall in the men's pair event.

A four-year standout rower at Brown and a two-time All-Ivy selection, Weiss helped the Bears to a pair of runner-up finishes at the 2013 and 2014 Eastern Sprints. He also rowed in the sixth seat of the varsity boat that earned a silver medal at the 2014 IRA National Championship.
