
Gymnastics Honors Seniors, Award Winners at Team Banquet

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University gymnastics celebrated its 2018 season, while honoring the members of its Class of 2018 and its award winners, at the program's annual year-end banquet at the Faculty Club on Wednesday.
Junior Julia Green (Exton, Pa.) earned the program's Most Valuable Gymnast award while senior Claire Ryan (Greenwood, Minn.) garnered the team's Leadership Award.
Junior Cassidy Jung (San Marino, Calif.) gained the Bears' Most Improved award, and senior Regan Butchness (Barrington, Ill.) collected the team's Most Consistent award.
Senior Maggie McAvoy (Charlotte, N.C.) and junior Gabrielle Hechtman (Bellmore, N.Y.) shared the program's Bruno Award, sophomore Erin Howell (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) earned Unsung Hero honors, and freshman Emma Hansen (Cincinnati, Ohio) garnered Rookie of the Year accolades.
The Bears' five seniors – Butchness, McAvoy, Ryan, Anya Barca-Hall (Santa Cruz, Calif.), and Anya Olson (Farmington Hills, Mich.) – took home their white letter sweaters, the traditional gift bestowed upon Brown's seniors.
Brown's five freshmen – Hansen, Rose Domonoske (Park City, Utah), Alyssa Gardner (Angola, N.Y.), Kate Nelson (Montara, Calif.), and Caroline Warren (Pawleys Island, S.C.) – received their brown letter sweaters, the traditional gift bestowed upon the Bears' first-year student-athletes.
Most Valuable Gymnast: Julia Green
- Garnered Second Team USAG All-America on vault
- Gained Second Team All-ECAC on vault at the championship event; took Second Team All-ECAC on vault based off RQS
- Earned First Team All-Ivy Classic on vault and Second Team All-Ivy Classic on floor
Most Improved: Cassidy Jung
- Gained All-ECAC on beam at the championship event
- Scored a season-high 9.825 on beam at the ECAC Championship (Mar. 24)
- Tallied a 9.600 or higher on beam eight times
Most Consistent: Regan Butchness
- Garnered First Team USAG All-America on beam
- Took home First Team All-ECAC on beam based off RQS
- Earned First Team All-Ivy Classic on beam
Bruno Award: Gabrielle Hechtman and Maggie McAvoy
- The Bruno Award is given to the gymnast who displays the best sportsmanship, team spirit, and positive motivation throughout the season
- Hechtman earned Second Team All-Ivy Classic on vault
- McAvoy earned ECAC Coaches Choice weekly honors on Mar. 20
Unsung Hero: Erin Howell
- Earned ECAC Coaches Choice weekly honors on Mar. 6
- Scored a season-high 9.750 on bars at USAG Team Preliminary Session No. 2 (Apr. 13)
Rookie of the Year: Emma Hansen
- Garnered First Team USAG All-America on bars
- Earned First Team All-ECAC on bars based off RQS
- Scored season highs of 9.875 on bars, 9.775 on beam, and 9.725 on floor
Leadership Award: Claire Ryan
- Garnered First Team USAG All-America on bars
- Earned Second Team All-Ivy Classic on bars
