
Women's Water Polo Defeats Connecticut College, 9-6

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Lexi Atwell and freshmen Kaitlyn Cook and Carissa Perez each scored two goals as Brown University women's water polo defeated Connecticut College, 9-6, on Sunday afternoon at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.
Trailing 5-4 midway through the third quarter, the Bears (13-14) used a 5-0 run to take a 9-5 lead on the visiting Camels (6-7) with 3:19 to play.
Atwell (La Jolla, Calif.) drew four ejections alongside her two goals while Cook (Los Gatos, Calif.) posted an assist and three steals to go with her pair of tallies. Perez (Pico Rivera, Calif.) added an assist and three ejections drawn to her two goals.
Junior Allison Woo (Arcadia, Calif.) totaled a goal, two steals, and three ejections drawn, freshman Alli Schaum (San Rafael, Calif.) tallied a goal and two steals, and freshman Lily Keck (La Jolla, Calif.) netted one goal.
In the cage, sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Burns (Long Grove, Ill.) made 10 saves.
Brown opened the game with a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. Woo and Cook converted the contest's first two goals before Keck closed the frame's scoring.
After a goal from Atwell gave the Bears a 4-1 lead, the Camels netted the final two goals of the first half to pull within 4-3 at the break. Conn. College scored the first two goals of the third quarter, taking a 5-4 lead behind a 4-0 run.
The Bears responded with five unanswered goals, gaining a 9-5 edge with 3:19 remaining. Atwell and Cook started the run with back-to-back goals to close the third quarter. Perez netted consecutive goals to open the fourth frame before Schaum completed the streak. The visitors posted the game's final goal with 2:30 left.
