
McDougal Nets Hat Trick, Women's Water Polo Falls to No. 9 Michigan, 16-5

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Maigrie McDougal netted a hat trick, but Brown University women's water polo fell to No. 9 Michigan, 16-5, on Saturday afternoon at Harvard University's Blodgett Pool.
In a Collegiate Water Polo Association contest, the Bears (12-14, 1-3 CWPA) remained within 4-2 late in the first quarter before the Wolverines (24-7, 2-0 CWPA) closed the half on a 7-1 run to gain separation.
McDougal (Sacramento, Calif.) led the Bears with her three goals while junior McKenna Miller (Danville, Calif.) posted a goal and five steals. Freshman Lily Keck (La Jolla, Calif.) scored one goal.
Senior Jessica Heilman (Menlo Park, Calif.), junior Allison Woo (Arcadia, Calif.), sophomore Lexi Atwell (La Jolla, Calif.), and freshman Carissa Perez (Pico Rivera, Calif.) each distributed one assist.
In the cage, sophomore goalie Lauren Burns (Long Grove, Ill.) made nine saves in the second half while senior net-minder Marisol Dakan (Pasadena, Calif.) blocked six shots in the first half.
McDougal scored twice in the opening quarter to keep Brown within 4-2 prior to the Wolverines notching the stanza's final two goals to take a 6-2 lead after one. Michigan closed a 6-0 run, taking a 10-2 lead in the second quarter. A goal from Keck kept Brown within 11-3 at the break.
McDougal and Miller each scored for the Bears in the third quarter as Michigan maintained a 14-5 edge heading to the final frame. The Wolverines netted the only two goals of the fourth quarter.
Next, Brown hosts Connecticut College tomorrow, Sunday, Apr. 8, at noon.
