
No. 7 Seed Women's Water Polo Beats No. 6 George Washington at CWPAs, 9-3

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Senior Jessica Heilman scored four goals, and senior goalkeeper Marisol Dakan made 13 saves as No. 7 seed Brown University women's water polo beat No. 6 seed George Washington University, 9-3, in the consolation of the 2018 Collegiate Water Polo Association Championship on Saturday afternoon.
Playing at Bucknell University's Kinney Natatorium, the Bears (16-17) did not allow the Colonials (13-15) to score over a 28:10 span from the first to fourth quarters, outscoring GW 8-0 over that time.
Brown advances to compete in the tournament's fifth-place game on Sunday at 10:30 a.m., facing No. 5 seed Bucknell (15-18). GW will meet No. 8 seed and No. 23 ranked Harvard (16-19) in the seventh-place game at 9:00 a.m.
Heilman (Menlo Park, Calif.) – the Player of the Game – added three steals to her four goals while sophomore Lexi Atwell (La Jolla, Calif.) tallied two goals and a steal. Juniors McKenna Miller (Danville, Calif.) and Carmen Rosas (Schaumburg, Ill.) each posted a goal, an assist, and a steal.
Junior Maigrie McDougal (Sacramento, Calif.) registered a goal and three steals, and freshman Carissa Perez (Pico Rivera, Calif.) dished out two assists. Freshmen Lily Keck (La Jolla, Calif.) and Alli Schaum (San Rafael, Calif.) each came up with two steals.
In the cage, Dakan (Pasadena, Calif.) did not allow a goal in either the second or third quarters, and her 13 saves gave her double-digit saves for the 11th time this season.
Miller opened the game's scoring 27 seconds into the contest before GW tied the score at 1-1 at the 5:56 mark of the opening frame. The Bears did not permit the Colonials to score again until 1:46 remained in the contest.
Brown netted the final three goals of the first quarter as a pair of tallies from Heilman and a marker from McDougal gave the Bears a 4-1 edge. Rosas and Atwell provided the only goals of the second quarter as Brown took a 6-1 advantage at the intermission.
Heilman posted the third quarter's lone tally, pushing Brown ahead 7-1 entering the final frame.
Atwell and Heilman converted the first two goals of the fourth quarter, capping an 8-0 stretch for the Bears. GW scored the game's final two goals with 1:46 and 0:54 left on the clock.
