
No. 7 Seed Women's Water Polo Falls to No. 2 Michigan in CWPA Quarters, 16-4

LEWISBURG, Pa. – No. 7 seed Brown University women's water polo fell to No. 2 seed the University of Michigan, 16-4, in the quarterfinals of the 2018 Collegiate Water Polo Association Championship on Friday afternoon at Bucknell University's Kinney Natatorium.
The Bears (15-17) trailed the No. 10 nationally ranked Wolverines (30-8) – a team that has now won 23 of its last 24 games – at halftime, 8-1, and could pull no closer in the second half.
Brown will now play in the tournament's consolation round on Saturday at noon, facing No. 6 seed George Washington (13-14). Michigan plays in the semifinals on Saturday at 3:00 p.m., meeting No. 3 seed and No. 13 ranked Hartwick (29-10).
Sophomore Lexi Atwell (La Jolla, Calif.) posted a goal, an assist, and a steal while junior Carmen Rosas (Schaumburg, Ill.) tallied a goal, a steal, and an ejection drawn.
Junior McKenna Miller (Danville, Calif.) notched a goal, two steals, and a field block, junior Maigrie McDougal (Sacramento, Calif.) finished with a goal and a steal, and senior Jessica Heilman (Menlo Park, Calif.) registered two steals and an ejection drawn. Freshman Carissa Perez (Pico Rivera, Calif.) added an assist and a steal.
In the cage, senior goalkeeper Marisol Dakan (Pasadena, Calif.) made 12 saves with a steal.
The Wolverines took a 5-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and extended the margin to 6-0 early in the second stanza. A power play goal from Atwell with 4:38 to go in the half gave the Bears their first goal. Michigan took an 8-1 lead into the intermission.
McDougal converted a goal with 6:12 to go in the third quarter, bringing the score to 9-2, before Rosas scored on a turnaround shot to cut the margin to 12-3 heading to the fourth quarter.
Miller netted the Bears' only tally of the fourth quarter, placing a shot from five meters into the right side of the goal with 4:42 remaining.
