Baseball Falls at Dallas Baptist, 17-2

DALLAS, Texas – Rich Ciufo (Medford, Mass.) had two hits and Garett Delano (Callahan, Fla.) hit a home run, but the Brown baseball team fell at Dallas Baptist, 17-2, to open a three-game series Friday night at Horner Ballpark.
Brown dropped to 3-6 on the season. Dallas Baptist improved to 10-6 after winning the first ever contest between the two programs.
MD Johnson earned the win for DBU as he allowed two runs over five innings with seven strikeouts. Reid Anderson (Aledo, Texas) was handed the loss with seven runs allowed and one strikeout as the starter. DBU hit seven home runs in the win, led by Tim Millard and Kody Funderburk with two apiece.
Brown jumped out to an early lead with one run in the first inning, as Sam Grigo (Westbrook, Conn.) walked and eventually crossed the plate on a fly out, but DBU answered with three runs on three hits in the bottom half of the frame.
Brown responded in the top of the second when Delano hit a solo home run to left field. The Patriots came right back with three more runs on four hits, including a home run, in the bottom half for the four-run advantage.
After one run in the third, the Patriots added four more runs in the fifth, as Jameson Hannah, Funderburk and Evan Sandmann all homered in the frame.
The Patriots tacked on three more runs over the next three frames, highlighted by a three-run seventh inning, and held the Bears to two hits the rest of the way to seal the win.
Brown will meet Dallas Baptist tomorrow in the middle game of the series at 3 PM ET.
