
Fencing's Signe Golash Selected for NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – Brown University fencing freshman women's sabre Signe Golash has earned selection among a total field of 144 competitors to the NCAA Fencing Championships, the NCAA announced on Tuesday afternoon.
A native of Syracuse, N.Y., Golash will take part in the NCAA Championships for the first time at Pennsylvania State University's Multi-Sport Facility in University Park, Pa., from March 22-23.

Rounds 1-3 in women's sabre will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 22 prior to rounds 4-5 action, beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, March 23. Semifinal and final competition will start at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 23.
A product of Corcoran High School, Golash finished in 10th place in women's sabre at Sunday's NCAA Northeast Regional. For the season, she went 33-2 in Northeast Fencing Conference competition.
Fencers will compete in a round-robin format of five-touch bouts. After the round-robin, the top-four finishers in each weapon will fence in semifinal 15-touch bouts, with the winners fencing to determine first and second places, and the non-advancing fencers being awarded a tie for third place.
An institution's place finish in the championships will be based on points earned by each individual. A team will be awarded one point for each victory by its student-athletes for the duration of the championships.
ESPN will broadcast the semifinal and final bouts on ESPN3 and/or the WatchESPN App. The semifinals and finals, along with other championships highlights will air on ESPNU at 1:00 p.m. ET on April 4.
