Paul, Uche Highlight Track & Field at New England Championship

BOSTON – Senior Carly Paul (Fort Collins, Colo.) and freshman Ijeoma Uche (Lawrenceville, Ga.) both broke school records as the Brown men's and women's track & field teams completed the New England Championships over the weekend at the Reggie Lewis Center.
Uche broke the school record in the long jump in her first attempt with a leap of 19-08.75 on Friday, breaking the previous mark of 19-08.00, set by Margaret Crumety '93 in 1993. Paul then broke that record in her final attempt of the long jump with a leap of 19-09.75. Paul and Uche finished third and fourth, respectively.
On the men's side, junior Jason Katz (Wyckoff, N.Y.) was third in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 24-03.75, and then took third in the triple jump with a mark of 50-0, fourth best in program history. Ryan Laudermilk (Riverside, Calif.) was third in the high jump with a personal-best cleared height of 6-10.25, tenth best all-time at Brown.
Brown had four runners advance the finals on Saturday. In the 400-meter finals, May Stern (Providence, R.I.) turned in a runner-up finish in a time of 55.89, while Mikela Waldman (San Francisco, Calif.) took fourth with a personal-best time of 57.08
Gwenyth Winship (New Bedford, N.H.) placed fifth at in the 500 meters at 1:15.86, while Nik Zemis (New Philadelphia, Ohio) placed eighth overall in the 400 meters in a time of 49.53.
Brown will return for the BU Valentine Invitational and the URI Coaches Tribute next weekend.
