
Paul Paces Women's Track & Field to Open Indoor Heps

HANOVER, N.H. – The Brown University women's track & field team is currently in sixth place with 12 points after the first day of the Ivy League Indoor Track & Field Championships at Leverone Field House.
Carly Paul (Fort Collins, Colo.) claimed the pentathlon title as she racked up 4,013 total points, beating out reigning champion Zoe Hughes of Harvard. She earned first place in both the high jump (5-10.50) and long jump (19-2) to secure the victory, becoming the first Bear to win the event since Natasha Smith in 2008. In the field, Paul also earned a fifth-place finish in long jump at 19-2.50.
On the track, May Stern (Providence, R.I.) turned in a fourth-place finish in the preliminaries of the 400 meters at 56.88 to move on to the finals.
Zion Lewis (Canton, Ga.) was sixth in the 60 meters at 7.62 to reach Sunday's finals, while Gwenyth Winship (Bedford, N.H.) also took sixth in the 500-meter prelims at 1:15.68.
Clare Peabody (Aptos, Calif.) placed fourth in the prelims of the 1,000 in a time of 2:51.88 to earn a spot in the finals.
The Bears wrap up the Ivy Heptagonal Championships on Sunday in Hanover.
