
Men's Lacrosse Cruises To 18-11 win Over Stony Brook Behind Carson Song's Five Goals

Stony Brook, N.Y. –Junior Carson Song (Charlotte, NC) scored a career high five goals and sophomore Luke McCaleb (Chevy Chase, MD) added four goals to lead the Brown men's lacrosse team (1-1) to its first win of the young season, 18-11, over Stony Brook (0-3) Saturday afternoon at LaValle Stadium.
The difference in the game came in the face-off x, where Brown won 21-of-32 face-offs and was paced by senior Ted Ottens (Wilton, CT), who captured 18-of-24 face-offs, including 12 of the game's first 15 face-offs.
Balanced scoring was the key to Brown's victory with eight different Brown players registering goals, led by Song's seven points (5 goals, 2 assists). Junior middy Michael Panepinto (Needham, MA) had three goals and an assist, senior Stephen Hudak (Rydal, PA) added two goals.
Bears' sophomore goalie Phil Goss (San Francisco, CA) made 10 saves in 52 minutes of play, allowing seven goals.
Four Stony Brook players scored two goals each, including Jack Walsh, Chris Pickel, Cory Vanginhoven and Patrick Kaschalk.
After falling behind 1-0, Brown answered with six straight goals to take control of the game, including two by Hudak and one each by McCaleb, junior Brian Prigmore (Vancouver, WA), Panepinto and Song to lead, 6-1, with 3:00 left in the quarter.
Stony Brook stopped the Bears' scoring onslaught with a goal by Kaschalk at the 1:50 mark. McCaleb answered to put Brown back up by five goals, 7-2, with 1:38 left. A late goal by Seawolves' Jack Walsh made the score 7-3 after one quarter.
Brown kept its foot on the accelerator to open the second quarter with goals by sophomore Michael Brown (Wilton, CT), Panepinto, and two by Song for an 11-3 lead with 4:43 left in the half. A goal by Kaschalk with 4:05 left cut Brown's lead to 11-4 at halftime.
Stony Brook scored two of the first three goals in the third quarter to draw within six goals, 12-6, following a goal by Jerry Brown.
The Bear quickly countered with two goals by McCaleb and another by Panepinto for a 15-6 advantage after three quarters.
Brown's biggest lead came early in the fourth quarter, 18-7, following goals by freshman George Grell (Short Hills, NJ) and Song.
Brown returns to Providence for its first home game of the season on Saturday, March 3, hosting #13 Rutgers at Stevenson-Pincince Field, starting at 4:00 pm.
