
Quinnipiac Stuns 17th Ranked Brown, 12-11, In Overtime

Hamden, Conn. - Mike Fletcher scored his fourth goal of the game with 3:12 left in overtime to lift Quinnipiac (1-1) to an upset win over 17th-ranked Brown, 12-11, Saturday afternoon in the season opener for the Bears (0-1).
In a game of possession, Quinnipiac dominated the face-off x, winning 19-of-27 face-offs, including a win by Will Vitelli to give the Bobcats possession in overtime.
The Bears were paced by junior Carson Song (Charlotte, NC), who had three goals. Sophomore Jack Kniffin (Darien, CT) and junior Michael Panepinto (Needham, MA) registered two goals and two assists each, while junior Brian Prigmore (Vancouver, WA) added two goals.
Brown sophomore goalie Phil Goss (San Francisco, CA), who led the nation in saves a year ago, registered 11 saves. Carson Cocco made 10 saves for the Bobcats.
Fletcher added an assist to go with his four goals. Matt Frost and Jake Tomsik had two goals each for the Bobcats.
Brown dominated early with Song scoring the first goal of the season to spark the Bears to a 3-0 advantage after 15 minutes. Panepinto and Prigmore also netted goals for the Bears. Goss set the tone in net for the Bears with four first-quarter saves.
Brown extended its lead to 4-0 early in the second quarter on a man-up goal by Song, but it was Quinnipiac who dominated the quarter.
The Bobcats scored their first goal of the season with Adam Bellemy igniting a 4-0 Quinnipiac run to tie the game, 4-4, at the half.
A goal by Matt Frost at 13:42 of the third quarter gave the Bobcats their first lead, 5-4, but Brown quickly responded on senior Stephen Hudak's (Rydal, PA) first goal of the season to tie the game, 5-5.
Quinnipiac scored two straight goals to pull ahead, 7-5, before Bears' freshman Riley Stewart (Darien, CT) scored his first career goal to trail 7-6.
Two more goals by Quinnipiac, the second by Brian Feldman with 3:17 left in the quarter, lifted the Bobcats to a 9-6 advantage. Prigmore scored a late goal for the Bears to trail, 9-7 after three quarters.
Brown's furious fourth quarter comeback bid started with a goal by Kniffin, followed by goals by Song and Kniffin again to grab a 10-9 lead with 10:59 remaining. A goal by Frost at the 8:48 mark tied the game for the Bobcats, 10-10.
Panepinto gave Brown an 11-10 lead with 5:40 left, but Sam Witt answered for the Bobcats at the 4:41 mark for an 11-11 tie, sending the game into overtime.
Brown will look for its first win of the season next Saturday, February 24, traveling to Long Island to battle Stony Brook. Face-off is 1:00 pm.
