Providence, R.I. – Sophomore Desmond Cambridge (Nashville, TN) scored a game high 23 points to lead Brown to its first win of the young season, 82-74, over UMass Lowell on the first day of the Brown Bear Tip-Off Classic at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The Bears improve to 1-2 overall, while the River Hawks fall to 1-3.

Play continues in the Brown Tip-Off Classic on Saturday with Army facing UMass Lowell at 3:30 pm, followed by Brown against Sacred Heart at 6:00 pm at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
"Our ability to turn them over and get to the foul line was a key to the game," said Brown head coach Mike Martin. "I'm happy we won and pleased that several of our players contributed off the bench, especially Chris Sullivan and David Mitchell. Desmond is a special talent and he put that on display tonight."
Cambridge, last year's Ivy League Rookie of the Year, connected on 8-of-21 field goals and 6-of-9 free throws in scoring 23 points. He also grabbed five rebounds and blocked two shots.
Junior Brandon Anderson (Mahwah, NJ) and senior Chris Sullivan (Wilmette, IL) also scored in double figures for the Bears, with Anderson registering 12 points and Sullivan 11 points. Bears' freshman David Mitchell (Roxbury, MA) scored a career high eight points.
The River Hawks had four double figure scorers, paced by Obadiah Noel with 17 points and Josh Glantz with 16 points. Christian Lutete paced both teams with nine rebounds for UMass Lowell.
Brown connected on 22-of-33 free throws and UMass Lowell converted 13-of-19 shots from the line. The Bears won the turnover battle, turning the River Hawks over 23 times, while being forced into 19 turnovers.
The Bears held a 29-28 lead with 4:35 left in the opening half before exploding with a 16-2 run to end the half to grab a 45-30 halftime advantage. Sullivan connected on 3-of-3 treys and both free throws to score 11 first half points for the Bears.
The River Hawks came storming back in the second half and cut Brown's lead to four points, 49-45, on a basket by Darius Henderson with 14:28 left in the game.
Brown quickly took control once again and built its lead back up to 13 points, 63-50, with 10:16 remaining on a layup by Zach Hunsaker (North Salt Lake City, UT).
