
Cross Country Heads to Ivy Championships on Saturday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown University men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Princeton's West Windsor Fields on Saturday, Oct. 27 for the 2018 Ivy League Heptagonal Championships. The women's race (6K) will start at 11 a.m. followed by the men's race (8K) at noon.

Championship Outlook
The Brown women's team placed sixth at the 2017 Ivy Championship while Columbia won the team title. Senior Carleen Jeffers turned in an impressive showing at the Penn State National Open earlier this season as she finished tenth out of 289 total runners. As a team, the Bears placed seventh out of 28 squads at the National Open. Freshman Maya Smith has put together a strong rookie season for the Bears. She finished 21st at the National Open and led the Bears at the Boston College Battle in Beantown. The Bears climbed as high as No. 2 in the Northeast Regional Rankings during the season.

The men's team placed seventh at Heps last season and Princeton captured the team championship. Franco Martins has been a consistent leader for the Bears this fall as he paced the squad at the Battle and Beantown and the Dartmouth Maribel Sanchez Souther Invitational. Cameron Daly led the Bears last time out at the competitive National Open, finishing 63rd overall, and also scored for the Bears last year at Heps.
