
Field Hockey Hosts Cornell on Saturday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown field hockey team will host Cornell on Saturday, Oct. 20 at Goldberger Family Field for an Ivy League contest. The game will start at noon and will be streamed live on ESPN+.

Freshman Danielle van Rootselaar leads Brown in scoring with 15 points on five goals and five assists. The rookie's point and goal total are tied for seventh in the conference. Gina Openshaw has a team-high seven goals, which is tied for fifth best in the Ivy League, while senior Rachel Lanouette has a squad-best seven assists, tied for third in the conference, to go along with three goals. Senior Katie Hammaker has started all 13 games in the cage and is second in the Ivy League in total saves with 85 on the year. She made a season-high 11 stops against William & Mary on Sept. 7.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bears will be playing their second game this week as the team defeated Holy Cross, 4-0, on Tuesday night in Worcester, Mass. Eight different Brown players registered at least a point in the contest while senior Katie Hammaker and junior Allee Ayles combined for seven saves in the shutout.
SCOUTING CORNELL
The Big Red enter the weekend with a 3-9 record and are 0-4 in the Ivy League. Kirsten Pienaar leads the team in points with seven on three goals and one assist. Maddie Conklin is second in points with six on three goals. Maddie Henry has seen the bulk of Cornell's action in net this season and has a 3.21 goals-against average and a .755 save percentage in 11 games played.
HAMMAKER IN THE RECORD BOOK
Senior Katie Hammaker has moved up the list of all-time goalkeeping records at Brown and is fourth in saves (431) and second in games played (64). Meg Stewart '82 is next up on the save list, in third with 450, while Shannon McSweeney '15 is first in games played with 68. Hammaker is also tied for sixth in wins (20) and tied for 10th in career shutouts (4).
DOUBLE TAKE
Brown has two sets of siblings on its 2018 roster in junior Allee Ayles and senior Maddie Ayles along with sophomore twins Anagha and Anya Nayak.
