CANTON, N.Y. – Zach Giuttari (Warwick, R.I.) and Alec Mehr (Los Angeles, Calif.) both scored for the Brown men's hockey team, but the Bears fell to St. Lawrence, 3-2, in Friday's ECAC contest at Appleton Arena.
Brown moved to 6-12-3 overall and 5-10 in the ECAC. St. Lawrence scored the game winner in the final five minutes to improve to 5-18-2, 1-11-1.
Luke Kania (Chicago, Ill.) made 33 saves in net for the Bears, while Arthur Brey had 37 stops for the Saints. Defenseman Max Gottlieb (Old Bridge, N.J.) recorded two assists.
The Bears went 1-for-2 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
Brown took advantage on an early power play as Giuttari scored just 1:47 into the contest. He collected a pass from Gottlieb and snapped a shot from the top of the left circle that tipped of Brey's stick and into the back of the net.
St. Lawrence answered right back when Alex Gilmour evened the score at 6:17 to make it 1-1 at the first intermission.
The back-and-forth action continued in the second period, when Mehr slapped a rebound past Brey after a shot by Gottlieb, pushing the Bears back in front with his fourth goal of the season.
Carson Gicewicz responded for the Saints just over two minutes later at 17:55 to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the third period.
Gicewicz notched the game-winning goal at 15:25 in the third with his second tally of the game, scoring at the top of the right circle on an odd-man rush for the lead, 3-2. Brown pulled Kania with 2:08 remaining for the extra skater, but Brey kept the Bears off the board to secure the win.
