PROVIDENCE, R.I. – JJ Addison, who spent the fall 2016 season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Bears, will take on a full-time position as Brown University men's water polo's top assistant coach, head coach Felix Mercado announced on Wednesday.
"We are excited to elevate JJ into a full-time role on our staff," Mercado said. "He is ready to embrace the opportunity to return to coaching full time, and his experience as a head coach at Connecticut College for over 10 years will benefit our student-athletes immensely."
Addison helped the Bears claim their third straight regular season conference title this past fall after serving as the head coach at Connecticut College from 2003-14 where he coached eight All-Americans and won three CWPA Division III Coach of the Year honors.
"I cannot thank Coach Mercado, Director of Athletics Jack Hayes, and the entire Brown athletic administration enough for giving me the opportunity to return to coaching full time at Brown," Addison said. "I am truly grateful for the chance to coach at an institution like Brown and will work as hard as possible to help our student-athletes succeed in and out of the pool."
Addison served as the head coach at Connecticut College from February 2003 to April 2014, winning a pair of CWPA Division III Women's Championships in 2013 and 2014. He coached eight All-Americans and 28 All-Academic selections while earning CWPA Division III Coach of the Year honors in 2007, 2010, and 2013.
He kept the Camels' program in the top 10 in the nation academically for 10 years, finishing as the No. 1 academic program in the nation three times. While at Connecticut College, Addison also worked as the Aquatics Director at Middlesex YMCA from 2006-09.
A 2001 graduate of the University of Colorado Boulder, Addison earned All-America honors as a collegiate water polo player. He competed at the University of Southern California from 1996-98, winning an NCAA Championship with the Trojans in 1998.
With Brown, Addison will also act as the operations assistant for the women's program.
