CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Brown men's swimming & diving team opened the first day of the Ivy League Championship on Wednesday night at Blodgett Pool, competing in the 200 medley relay and the 800 freestyle relay.
"We had a very stable first night with season-best times in both the 200 medley relay and the 800 freestyle relay," said head coach Chris Ip.
A team of sophomore William Steele (Katy, Texas), senior Connor Lohman (Prospect, Ky.), senior Daniel Klotz (Berlin, Conn.) and freshman Cody Cline (Wellington, Fla.) finished fifth in the night's first event, the 200 medley relay, with a time of 1:28.49.
To close out the opening night, Cline, freshman Jagger Stephens (Agana Heights, Hagatna, Guam), freshman Troy Li (Carmel, Ind.) and freshman Alex Smilenov (Katy, Texas) placed seventh in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 6:39.66.
"Going forward I am looking for our team to adjust, settle down, and swim our races," said Ip. "The 800 free relay was composed of all freshman and there were definitely some jitters in their swims. With only two relays this evening the coaching staff will get a better picture of where our team is tomorrow with some individual events."
Day two from the Blodgett Pool starts at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow with preliminary time trials starting with the 500 freestyle. Finals will begin at 6:00 p.m.
