BOSTON, Mass. - The Brown women's hockey team fought back from a 2-0 deficit and eventually took a 4-3 lead in the third period but Boston University would score three unanswered goals to take the non-conference game 6-4 on Tuesday night at Walter Brown Arena.
The Terriers (6-7-2) scored the first two goals of the contest, with Victoria Bach scoring in the first period (3:50) and Jesse Compher adding BU's second early in the second period (2:17) while on the power play.
Brown (1-10-0) quickly responded to Compher's goal with a power-play tally of its own by sophomore Sena Hanson (New Brighton, Minn.), her fourth of the season at 2:59. Junior Cara Najjar (Stoneham, Mass.) assisted the score, her fifth-straight game with a helper, and senior Samantha Swanstrom (Ham Lake, Minn.) was also credited with an assist.
The Bears tied it up with their second power-play goal of the period, this one coming from senior Cynthia Kyin (Skokie, Ill.) at 8:39 with the assists from sophomores Veronica Alois (Andover, Mass.) and Alley Rempe (Calgary, Alberta). BU regained a 3-2 lead at 11:37 when Rebecca Leslie registered a goal to give the Terriers the slight advantage going into the third. Alois opened the third period scoring with her third of the season at 4:45 to tie the game, 3-3, receiving the feed from freshman Abby Nearis (Beverly, Mass.) and Najjar. With the momentum, Hanson put the Bears up with her second of the game at 5:37 with senior Sam Donovan (New Brighton, Minn.) tallying the assist.
BU capitalized on its sixth power play of the game and tied the contest 4-4 when Compher recorded her second on the night at 8:57. Bach then tallied her second of the contest while the Terriers were on another power play at 13:29 to take a 5-4 lead. Leslie sealed the victory for BU at 15:30 for a 6-4 score.
Sophomore Calla Isaac (Sherwood Park, Alberta) was tested early in the contest and made 18 saves in the first period and finished the game with 45 stops, three shy of her career high. Corinne Schroeder posted 17 saves on the other side for BU.
Brown was 2-for-3 overall while on the power-play while BU converted on three of its seven opportunities.
