Anderson's 21 Points Propel Brown To 106-78 Season Opening Win over Johnson & Wales

Providence, R.I. – Brown opened its 112th season of intercollegiate basketball by cruising to a 106-78 win over Johnson & Wales behind sophomore guard Brandon Anderson's (Mahwah, NJ) career high 21 points. The 106 points scored by the Bears rank sixth best in Brown basketball history.
The baby Bears started two freshmen, forwards Matt DeWolf (Barrington, RI) and Desmond Cambridge (Nashville, TN), a first-year player in sophomore guard Zach Hunsaker (Orem, UT), along with sophomores Anderson and forward Joshua Howard (Charlotte, NC).
Both teams were effective from the free throw line, with the Bears connecting on 35-of-40 shots from the charity stripe and the Wildcats converting 24-of-31 free throws.
"It was the first game in a Brown uniform for a lot of our players and I thought we showed some talent and athleticism," said Bears' head coach Mike Martin. "This is a brand-new team with an emphasis on getting to the free throw line by putting pressure on the defense."
Anderson led five Brown players in double figures, doing most of his scoring from the free throw line, connecting on 16-of-17 free throws, while also adding career highs in rebounds (6) and steals (4).
Junior Travis Fuller (Encinitas, CA) also registered a career scoring high with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field, while Cambridge and Hunsaker added 15 points each. Howard chipped in with 10 points for the Bears, connecting on 4-of-6 field goals. Bears' sophomore forward David Erebor (Sykesville, MD) pulled down a career best and team high eight rebounds.
The Wildcats were paced by Randall Ferdinand with 17 points and Nate Patenude with 15 points.
Brown led by eight points early, but Johnson & Wales grabbed its only lead of the game, 25-24, on a dunk by Brian Hogan-Gary midway through the opening half.
The Bears quickly responded with a 15-0 run to take control of the game, 39-25, following two free throws by Hunsaker.
Freshman Tamenang Choh (Lowell, MA) gave Brown its biggest lead of the opening 20 minutes, 58-39, on a layup with three seconds left in the half. Cho went on to score eight points for the game.
Martin's squad provided more of the same offensive firepower to open the second half with the Bears mounting a 12-4 run to put the game away, 70-43, 16:07 left to play.
The Bears travel to Hamden, Connecticut to face Quinnipiac on Monday, November 13. Tip-off is 7:00 pm at TD Bank Sports Center.
