PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Former Brown men's rower Anders Weiss (Barrington, R.I.) recently competed at the 2017 World Rowing Championships held in Sarasota-Bradenton, Florida.
Weiss, who represented the United States in the men's pair event with Michael Colella, finished 11th overall in the finals with a time of 6:31.34. After finishing fourth in the opening heat, the pair placed third in the repechage, edging Argentina to advance to the semifinals. The duo then placed fifth overall in the first semifinal in a time of 6:48.12.
Weiss represented the United States at the 2016 Olympic Games last summer, where he took 11th overall in the men's pair, earning a spot in Rio after a thrilling victory in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
A four-year standout rower at Brown and a two-time All-Ivy selection, Weiss helped the Bears to a pair of runner-up finishes at the 2013 and 2014 Eastern Sprints. He also rowed in the sixth seat of the varsity boat that earned a silver medal at the 2014 IRA National Championship. The Rhode Island native went on to capture a silver medal in the men's eight at the 2013 World Rowing Under 23 Championships.
Brown men's crew will open the fall season at the Head of the Housatonic this weekend.
