
Fifth-Seeded Brown Lacrosse Hosts Johns Hopkins In NCAA First Round at Stevenson-Pincince Field

Providence, R.I. – Brown men's lacrosse has earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season, claiming the fifth overall seed, and will host Johns Hopkins on Saturday, May 14 at Stevenson Pincince-Field. The game will be televised live on ESPNU, starting at 5:00 pm.
NCAA First Round On ESPNU: Saturday's NCAA Tournament game between Brown and Johns Hopkins will be broadcast on ESPNU with Eamon McAnaney calling the play and Paul Carcaterra providing the analysis.
The Bears: Brown (14-2, 6-0 Ivy) earned the fifth-seed in the NCAA Tournament after posting a school record 14 wins, eclipsing the previous record of 13 wins by Brown teams from 1966 (13-3), 1991 (13-1) and 1994 (13-5). The Bears lead the nation in scoring with 16.75 goals per game and have set a school record with 268 goals, breaking the previous mark of 263 by Brown's 1990 team.
The Blue Jays: Johns Hopkins, one of the most storied lacrosse programs in NCAA history, finished its season with an 8-6 overall record. The Blue Jays, a member of the Big 10 Conference in lacrosse, posted wins over three NCAA Tournament teams, Navy (12-11 ot), #6 Towson (14-8) and #3 Syracuse (11-10 ot). Hopkins is making its 44th NCAA tournament appearance with nine NCAA titles to its credit.
The Brown-Hopkins Series Record: Brown and Johns Hopkins have met 11 times, dating back to 1970, with the Blue Jays holding a 10-1 series advantage. The two teams last met in 2009, with Hopkins coming out on top of a 12-11 overtime decision in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament at Homewood Field. Brown's last win over the Blue Jays came in 1971, an 11-8 victory for the Bears.
What's Next?: The winner of the Brown vs. Hopkins first round game will advance to the NCAA Quarterfinal's next Saturday, May 21, at Brown Stadium, and will face the winner of the Yale vs. Navy first round matchup.
Ivy League Champions: Brown earned its 10th Ivy League Championship in 2016, having previously won Ivy titles in 1969, 1973, 1985, 1991, 1994, 1995, 2008, 2010 and 2015. The Bears have posted unbeaten Ivy League marks (6-0) in 1973, 1985, 1991, 1994 and 2016.

Brown In The NCAA Tournament: Brown will be making its 14th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Bears were a Final Four team in 1994 and last appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2015, falling on the road to eventual national champion Denver. Kelly Sets Brown Career Save Mark: The backstop for Brown's talented defense is senior All-American and two-time First Team All-Ivy goalie Jack Kelly (West Islip, NY), who currently leads the country in save percentage (.618), ranks ninth in the nation in goals against average (8.13), and 10th nationally in saves per game (11.56). He made 16 saves vs. Harvard in the Ivy Tournament and established a new Brown record with 636 career saves, eclipsing the previous record of 631 by Dick Alter 1964-1966. Kelly came up with a big performance in Brown's win over Virginia with 13 saves in 55 minutes of play. He had seven saves, while allowing just one goal in three quarters of play vs. Dartmouth. Kelly was named the USILA Defensive Player of the Week after making nine of his 12 saves in the first half vs. Cornell, allowing just five goals, and making 10 saves in a win over cross-town rival Providence, while allowing just six goals. Kelly, who had 11 saves in Brown's win over #1 Yale, provided the spark in Brown's win over Penn with 15 saves, while allowing just four goals. He had 15 saves vs. Bryant, registered 10 saves in the Bears' win over Princeton, and made 10 saves vs. #5 Villanova, allowing just eight goals, while also scoring his first career goal from midfield. Kelly played just three quarters in Brown's win over Holy Cross, making 11 saves, and had eight saves in three quarters of play against Michigan. He registered 11 saves while surrendering just five goals in 50:42 of play against UMass. Kelly played a key role in Brown's win over #19 Stony Brook, making 20 saves, mostly in spectacular fashion, including seven in the first quarter. He made eight saves in the Bears' 20-7 season opening win over Quinnipiac. Last season, Kelly led the Ivy League and ranked 11th nationally in saves per game (11.53), while his save percentage of .554 led the Ivy League and was 14th nationally. A unanimous First Team All-Ivy and All-New England selection in 2015, he was named the NCAA, Lacrosse Magazine and Ivy League Player of the Week after coming up with 21 spectacular saves in Brown's 15-6 win over #10 Cornell.
All-Ivy Men's Lacrosse Team: Brown junior All-American Dylan Molloy (Setauket, NY) has been named the Ivy League Player of the Year for the second straight season as he headlined the All-Ivy Men's Lacrosse Team that includes nine Brown honorees. In addition, Brown head coach Lars Tiffany was named the Ivy League Coach of the Year for the second straight season after guiding the second-ranked Bears to a school record 14 wins (14-1) and the number one seed in the Ivy League Tournament. Joining Molloy on the All-Ivy First Team is senior All-American goalie Jack Kelly (West Islip, MY), junior All-American long stick middy Larken Kemp (Greenwich, CT), senior face-off specialist Will Gural (Haverford, PA), senior middy Brendan Caputo (Westbury, NY), and junior defenseman Alec Tulett (Toronto, Ontario). Sophomore defenseman JJ Ntshaykolo (San Francisco, CA) earned Second Team All-Ivy honors, while senior attackmen Kylor Bellistri (Potomac, MD) and Henry Blynn (Villanova, PA) were Honorable Mention All-Ivy selections.
Kemp – Second Team All-American LSM: A First Team All-Ivy and All-New England selection in 2016, junior LSM Larken Kemp (Greenwich, CT) is equally adept on the offensive and defensive ends of the field, and excels on the wing during face-offs. He was a ground ball machine vs. Harvard in the Ivy Tournament with eight. He currently ranks 12th nationally in caused turnovers (1.81 per game) and has four goals and 12 assists on the season. Kemp picked up 10 ground balls and caused three turnovers in Brown's win over Dartmouth. An offensive threat, Kemp whistled in a goal vs. Providence and had three assists vs. Penn. Kemp caused four turnovers and picked-up eight ground balls vs. Bryant. He picked up six ground balls and caused two turnovers vs. Princeton, and disrupted #14 Harvard for five turnovers, while picking up seven ground balls in Brown's 11-8 win over the Crimson. Kemp picked up four ground balls, caused three turnovers and handed out an assist vs. Holy Cross, and had an assist and three caused turnovers vs. Michigan. He had another strong performance against UMass with an assist, four caused turnovers and six ground balls. Kemp had two assists and four ground balls vs. #19 Stony Brook. He scored a goal and had two assists, while picking up three ground balls vs. Quinnipiac. Last year, the Second Team USILA All-American ranked second in the Ivies and fourth in the nation with 2.06 caused turnovers per game, and ranked 31st nationally in ground balls (4.81 per game). A two-time Ivy League Player of the Week in 2015, Kemp was heralded as the National Defensive Player of the Week by the Baltimore Sun following Brown wins over Marist and #9 Princeton.
NCAA Quarterfinals At Brown Stadium: Brown University is hosting the NCAA Quarterfinals on Saturday, May 21 with a double header at Brown Stadium. Game times have been set for 12 noon and 2:30 pm with both games being broadcast on ESPNU. Molloy/Kelly/Bellistri Named Tewaaraton Award Nominees: The Tewaaraton Foundation has announced the 2016 Tewaaraton Award nominees, and Brown junior All-Americans Dylan Molloy (Setauket, NY) and Jack Kelly (West Islip, NY) and senior attackman Kylor Bellistri (Potomac, MD) are among the Top 25 nominees for the award, presented to the nation's top player.
Molloy – Two-Time Ivy League Player of the Year: Junior All-American attackman Dylan Molloy (Setauket, NY) was named the Ivy League Player of the Year for the second straight season and is fast becoming one of the top players in NCAA history. His 106 points this season (56 goals, 50 assists) rank ninth in the NCAA record book, and he's challenging Albany's Lyle Thompson for the NCAA single season scoring record of 128 points. A leading candidate for the Tewaaraton Award as the nation's top player, Molloy leads the country in assists (3.13 per game) and points (6.63 per game), and ranks third in goals (3.5 per game). With 147 career goals, Molloy is within reach of Brown's all-time record of 150 goals by Andy Towers from 1990-1993. He also ranks second on Brown's all-time scoring list with 237 career points, eighth best in Ivy League history. Molloy is coming off a five goal, two assist performance against Harvard in the Ivy Tournament. Molloy was named the Ivy League Player of the Week for the fourth time after scoring three goals and handing out four assists in Brown's win over Virginia, and netting five goals and one assist in the Bears' win over Dartmouth to claim the Ivy title outright. Molloy tossed in three goals and had three assists in Brown's win over Cornell, and had five goals and two assists in the Ivy Playoffs vs. Harvard. He handed out five assists and scored a goal in Brown's win over Providence, and scored a game-high five goals and distributed an assist in Brown's win over #1 Yale. Molloy has registered at least one point in Brown's last 34 games, a point streak that dates back to April 19, 2014. He was named the Ivy League Player of the Week for the third time this year after stepping up in a big way against Penn with eight goals to tie his career-high, while adding three assists for 11 points, the seventh most points in Ivy Lacrosse history. Molloy had a goal and five assists vs. Bryant. He was named the Ivy League and USILA/ Lids Team Sports National Player of the Week after scoring six goals and five assists in the Bears' 19-8 win over Princeton, and netting three goals and handing out two assists in Brown's 19-8 win over #5 Villanova. An honorable mention All-Ivy selection, Blynn tossed in four goals in Brown's win over Virginia and scored four goals in Brown's win over Dartmouth. He scored three goals and handed out two assists vs. Cornell to help Brown clinch the Ivy Championship. Blynn scored two goals against cross-town rival Providence and added two goals in Brown's win over #1 Yale. Blynn recorded a hat-trick vs. Penn after scoring two goals vs. Bryant. He scored three goals and handed out one assist in Brown's win over Princeton, and stepped up in the Bears' victory over #5 Villanova with three goals and two assists. Blynn had two goals and an assist vs. #14 Harvard. Brown's third leading scorer with 22 goals, Blynn tossed in four goals, while adding two assists vs. Holy Cross. Tulett 14th Nationally In Ground Balls: Anchoring the Bears' close defense is junior First Team All-Ivy and All-New England selection Alec Tulett (Toronto, Ontario), a two-year starter for the Bears, who currently ranks 14th in the nation in ground balls (5.63). Tulett picked up five ground balls and caused a turnover in Brown's win over Virginia. He picked up eight ground balls in the Bears' victory over cross-town rival Providence, and had seven ground balls in Brown's win over #1 Yale. Tulett picked up four ground balls and caused two turnovers vs. Penn. He had two assists, two ground balls and two caused turnovers vs. Bryant. A defenseman, Tulett excelled on the offensive side of the ball against Princeton, scoring two goals, while also picking up seven ground balls against the Tigers. He had four ground balls in Brown's 19-8 win over #5 Villanova. Tulett picked up seven ground balls and caused two turnovers in the Bears' 11-8 win over #14 Harvard, and helped Brown win 26-of-30 face-offs vs. Holy Cross by picking up a career-high 11 ground balls. Tills Finds The Back of the Net: Senior middy Bailey Tills (Denver, CO) is Brown's second leading scorer from the midfield with 15 goals and 17 assists for 32 points, after netting a goal and an assist in Brown's win over Virginia. He handed out two assists in Brown's win over Dartmouth. Tills had four points in Brown's win over #5 Villanova with two goals and two assists. He matched his career scoring high four goals on four shots vs. UMass. He then came back with two goals vs. Holy Cross. Tills also had a goal and four assists vs. Michigan. He scored a goal and added an assist vs. #14 Harvard.
Gural Third Nationally In Face-Off Pct./ Scores Hat-Trick vs. Virginia: Brown features one of the top face-off specialists in the country with senior First Team All-Ivy selection Will Gural (Haverford, PA), who currently ranks third in the nation in face-off percentage, winning 216-of-311 (.695) face-offs, and is sixth nationally in ground balls (7.2 per game). He proved his value in Brown's win over Virginia by winning 18-of-26 face-offs and scoring a career-high three goals, all directly off face-offs. Gural captured 17-of-18 face-offs vs. Dartmouth, while picking up 10 ground balls. He was named the Ivy League and Baltimore Sun National Player of the Week after scoring two goals and handing out two assists in Brown's win over #1 Yale, while picking up 11 ground balls and winning 19-of 27 face-offs, including 11-of-13 face-offs in the second half. Gural turned in a yeoman's performance vs. Providence, wining 16-of-19 face-offs, while picking up nine ground balls. He won 13-of-20 face-offs with eight ground balls vs. Princeton and captured 10-of-17 face-offs and picked up seven ground balls vs. #5 Villanova. Gural "pitched" a perfect game against Holy Cross, winning 17-of-17 face-offs to help ignite Brown's offense. He opened the season by winning 11-of-14 face-offs vs. Quinnipiac, and came back by winning 20-of-30 face-off against #19 Stony Brook. Against UMass, Gural won 12-of-15 face-offs. Last year, Gural captured 233-of-391 face-offs (.596), 12th best in the nation. Gural was also an offensive threat, with six goals last season. He won 16-of-20 face-offs in Brown's Ivy League Playoff game vs. Yale, and registered a 12-9 advantage vs. Princeton. His 5.17 ground balls per game ranked 25th nationally. He also turned in an outstanding performance vs. eventual national champion Denver in the NCAA Playoffs, winning 15-of-25 face-offs against the nation's #1 face-off man, Trevor Baptiste.
Kelly Named Senior CLASS Award Finalist: Brown senior All-American goalie Jack Kelly (West Islip, NY) is among 10 NCAA® men's lacrosse student-athletes who excel both on and off the field were selected as finalists for the 2015-16 Senior CLASS Award® for collegiate lacrosse. To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be classified as NCAA Division I seniors and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
Caputo Eclipses 100 Career Point Mark: Brown's prolific offense also features a high-scoring midfield, led by senior First Team All-Ivy Brendan Caputo (Westbury, NY), who eclipsed the 100-point mark with a goal and two assists in Brown's win over #1 Yale. Caputo has 17 goals and 17 assists for the season after registering three assists vs. Harvard in the Ivy Tournament. He scored a goal and added an assist in Brown's win over Virginia, after netting a goal and two assists in Brown's win over Dartmouth. Caputo netted three goals and assisted on another to help Brown clinch the Ivy title vs. Cornell. He now has 116 career points with 68 goals and 48 assists. Caputo led the Bears' midfield with two goals and two assists in Brown's 19-8 win over Princeton, and posted a big game vs. #19 Stony Brook with three goals and two assists. He tallied 26 goals and added 12 assists last year, scoring three goals vs. Hartford, Yale and Princeton.
Lighting Up The Scoreboard: The Bears returned 210 of the 228 goals scored (92-percent) in 2015, led by junior All-American Dylan Molloy, who led the nation in scoring with a school-record 62 goals. Brown's starting attack of Molloy, senior Henry Blynn (38 goals) and senior Kylor Bellistri (35 goals) returns intact with 135 goals.
Head Coach Lars Tiffany: Lars Tiffany '90, a two-time Brown lacrosse captain, returned to his alma mater as head men's lacrosse coach in the summer of 2006, and has returned the program to national prominence with Ivy League titles in 2008, 2010, 2015 and 2016 while earning NCAA Championship berths in 2009, 2015 and 2016. Now in his 12th season as a head coach, Tiffany has posted a career record of 111-68, including a 10-year record of 93-55 at Brown. Tiffany was named New England Coach of the Year in 2008, 2009, 2015 and 2016while leading his team to the number one ranking in New England in 2008 and 2009. He was also named the Ivy League Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2016. Tiffany occupies the Rothman Head Coaching Chair for Men's Lacrosse, an endowed position.
