
Women's Water Polo Tops George Washington, Falls to Bucknell

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Brown University women's water polo defeated George Washington University, 17-12, before falling to Bucknell University, 13-9, in a pair of Collegiate Water Polo Association games at GW's Smith Center Pool on Saturday afternoon.
Four Brown performers scored three or more goals in the opener to lead the Bears (9-19, 1-2 CWPA) past the host Colonials (6-10, 0-1 CWPA) prior to dropping a decision to the Bison (13-12, 1-1 CWPA).
Junior Marisa Kolokotronis (Sacramento, Calif.) totaled seven goals, eight assists, and six steals between the two games while sophomore goalie Marisol Dakan (Pasadena, Calif.) finished the day with 21 saves.
Next, Brown continues CWPA play with a pair of games on the campus of Princeton on Saturday, Apr. 16, facing No. 15 Indiana at 10 a.m. and the host No. 16 Tigers at 2 p.m. The Bears conclude the weekend in Princeton vs. No. 8 Michigan on Sunday, Apr. 17 at 2:20 p.m.
Game 1: Brown 17, George Washington 12
Kolokotronis recorded five goals, five assists, and two steals to pace four Bears with hat tricks as Brown bested George Washington, 17-12, in its first game of the day and first CWPA win of the season.
Sophomore Jessica Heilman (Menlo Park, Calif.) posted four goals, four ejections drawn, and three steals while senior Olivia Santiago (Los Altos, Calif.) tallied three goals, two assists, and two steals.
Freshman Carmen Rosas (Schaumburg, Ill.), a recent selection for the Illinois Water Polo Hall of Fame, netted three goals, and fellow first-year McKenna Miller (Danville, Calif.) added two goals and two assists. Senior Victoria Pierotti (Newport Beach, Calif.) chipped in two assists and three steals.
In the cage, Dakan turned aside 12 shots and dished out an assist.
Goals from Santiago, Kolokotronis, and Heilman gave Brown a 3-2 edge before GW made it 3-3. The Bears then used a 4-0 run behind markers from Santiago, Heilman, and Miller (two) to pull ahead 7-3 and remain ahead 7-4 at the end of the first quarter.
Heilman scored Brown's first two goals in the second stanza and Kolokotronis added another as Brown pulled ahead 10-5. After a pair of Colonial tallies made it 10-7, Rosas and Kolokotronis pushed Brown ahead 12-7. The visitors led 12-8 at halftime.
Kolokotronis and Rosas netted two goals apiece in the third frame as Brown built a 16-10 advantage heading into the fourth quarter. Santiago gave the Bears a 17-10 edge early in the period before GW charted the match's last two markers.

Game 2: Bucknell 13, Brown 9
The Bears matched the Bison's goal totals in each of the last three quarters, but Bucknell used a 4-0 first frame to gain a 13-9 win over Brown in the Bears' second game of the afternoon.
Heilman registered three goals and two ejections drawn while Kolokotronis compiled two goals, three assists, and four steals. Santiago logged two goals and three steals.
Miller posted one goal, two assists, and three steals, Rosas scored a goal, and freshman Maigrie McDougal (Sacramento, Calif.) came up with three steals.
Dakan blocked nine shots in goal and tacked on an assist.
After Bucknell took a 4-0 lead through the first quarter, Heilman netted the second stanza's first two goals to pull Brown within 4-2. The Bison used a 3-0 run to gain a 7-2 edge before a goal from Miller made it 7-3 at the break.
In the third quarter, Santiago brought the Bears' deficit to 7-4 and Kolokotronis kept it at 9-6, but Bucknell carried a 10-6 edge into the final frame. Heilman, Kolokotronis, and Santiago each scored in the last quarter as the two teams traded goals.
