
Balanced Attack Propels Women's Water Polo Past Conn. College, 17-10

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown checked 10 different performers into the scoring column, and 13 Bears registered either a goal or an assist as Brown University women's water polo defeated Connecticut College, 17-10, on Wednesday night at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.
In their first home game since Feb. 7, the Bears (8-18) built a 6-1 lead through the first quarter and maintained a 13-5 edge after three frames en route to their win over the visiting Camels (12-6).
Senior Olivia Santiago (Los Altos, Calif.) paced Brown with six points on two goals and four assists alongside two steals. Junior Marisa Kolokotronis (Sacramento, Calif.) tallied three goals and three steals while sophomore Jessica Heilman (Menlo Park, Calif.) posted three goals and an assist.
Freshmen Maigrie McDougal (Sacramento, Calif.) and Carmen Rosas (Schaumburg, Ill.) each finished with two goals and two assists, rounding out the hosts' five multi-goal scorers. Fellow first-year McKenna Miller (Danville, Calif.) chipped in a goal and two assists. Senior Victoria Pierotti (Newport Beach, Calif.) totaled two assists and two steals.
Senior Emma Dodd (Pasadena, Calif.), junior Jourdan Meltzer (Oakland, Calif.), sophomore Hailey Jacobson (Missoula, Mont.), and freshman Lucia Adami (Brookfield, Ill.) each netted one goal with Adami adding an assist. Senior Reia Tong (Bethesda, Md.) logged an assist and two steals.
In the cage, sophomore net-minder Marisol Dakan (Pasadena, Calif.) made 11 saves to go with an assist in three quarters of play. Santiago and Dodd split time in net in the fourth frame, stopping one and two shots respectively.
Brown opened the game with a 3-0 lead as Koloktronis scored on a breakaway, Heilman connected from the right wing, and Santiago converted from two meters. After a Camel goal, McDougal scored on the inside, Heilman made a no-look shot, and Kolokotronis skipped a shot into the goal for a 6-1 lead at the end of one.
A Rosas goal from two meters made it 7-2, and Heilman pushed the hosts' edge to 8-2 with a shot from the right wing. Conn. College closed the half with two goals to pull within 8-4 at the intermission.
The Bears netted the third quarter's first five goals to move ahead 13-4 with 3:13 to play in the frame. Santiago started the run with a goal from two meters before Koloktronis scored in transition. Rosas posted a goal on the inside before McDougal and then Dodd each connected from the left wing to finish the streak. The Camels netted one tally to end the stanza to pull within 13-5 heading into the fourth.
After a pair of goals from the visitors to start the final frame, Adami and Miller notched back-to-back goals from the left wing. Conn. College pulled within 15-9 before Meltzer slotted in a goal from the right wing. The visitors scored once more before Jacobson found the back of the net to close the contest's scoring.
Next, Brown plays a pair of CWPA games on the campus of George Washington on Saturday, taking on GW at 11 a.m. and Bucknell at 4 p.m.
