PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown baseball team posted 30 combined hits as the Bears swept past Yale, 4-3 and 10-3, to claim the four-game series in Saturday's season finale at Yale Field.
Game 1 (Brown 4, Yale 3)
Rob Henry (Cranston, R.I.), Jake Levine (Newton, Mass.) and Marc Sredojevic (Mendham, N.J.) had two hits apiece in the first game, while Brian Ginsberg (Calabasas, Calif.) drove in a pair of runs.
Austin French (Orange, Conn.) earned his fourth win of the season as he allowed three runs in six innings with four strikeouts. Sophomore Dante Bosnic (Lutz, Fla.) closed the door with a hitless seventh inning for his fourth save. Mason Kukowski took the loss in relief.
Ginsberg gave the Bears the early lead with an RBI double in the second and also drove in Noah Shulman (Merrick, N.Y.) with a groundout in the fourth for the two-run advantage. Yale responded with one run in each of the next three innings for a one-run lead heading into the final frame.
In the seventh, Henry and Levine hit back-to-back singles before Henry eventually crossed the plate on a wild pitch to even the score. Kevin Guthrie (Sarasota, Fla.) pushed the Bears in front with a two-out, RBI single to center field. In the bottom of the frame, Bosnic sent down the Bulldogs in order to pick up the save and secure the win.
Game 2 (Brown 10, Yale 3)
Brown racked up 19 hits in the second game, as eight players had at least two hits, led by Sam Grigo (Westbrook, Conn.), Tim McKeithan (Arden, N.C.) and Shulman with three apiece. Levine added two hits with a home run.
Max Ritchie (Woodbridge, Conn.) gave up just one earned run in 6.1 innings with six strikeouts for the win, before Bobby Leyman (North Hampton, N.H.) and JJ Sliepka (Houston, Texas) provided 2.2 hitless frames out of the bullpen.
After three scoreless innings, Brown exploded for five runs on six hits in the top of the fourth. Guthrie started it off with a two-run double, before McKeithan and Sredojevic followed with a pair of RBI singles. Shulman scored the fifth run on Grigo's double to left field.
Brown opened the top of the sixth with three straight hits to pave the way for a three-run inning. Yale answered with three runs over the next two innings, but the Bears tacked on two more in the eighth on Levine's fifth homer of the season.
Sliepka struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth for the team's third win of the four-game set to claim the series.
